Hello there, congrats on finishing lesson one of drawabox. Now on to the critique.

Lines

Some of the superimposed lines look confident and some are quite wobbly. There is fraying on both ends. You should put the pen down on the start of the line, after ghosting of course, then move it towards the end. From the result, it looks like you just set the pen down in the area around the start and then move the pen. Some of your superimposed lines are similar to the following, where there is fraying at the ends.

https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/1585f266.jpg

Some even wobble like so

https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/5bcda336.jpg

Again set your pen down at the start and then swiftly move it to the end.

The ghosted lines also have some that wobble, The same applies here, ghost the line. Once you get a feel for the line, place your pen at the start dot you plotted and then in a swift motion move to the end dot. Fully commit to drawing the line. That's why you have to do it fast so that your brain does not try to change the trajectory of the line while you are drawing it. Draw with confidence. This applies to all your lines in other exercises. All drawn from the shoulder of cause.

Lines in the ghosted plane suffer from the same issues as above. I also see that you repeated a line/drew it over. We should not do this. You plot your line, ghost the line, then draw it with confidence. If the line is unsatisfactory, we move on to the next line. DO not draw over the line.

Ellipses

Firstly, all ellipses should be drawn through at least twice which is recommended and at most thrice.

https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/a76a8906.jpg

You have drawn yours only once over.

Secondly, it looks like you are favoring accuracy over confidence, This is why there are corners and wobbles on your ellipses. You should ghost your ellipse where you want to put it . Once you are confident, execute the ellipses speedily. Don't think about accuracy, just execute the ellipse with speed. Try doing this on an empty blank page to get the feel for it. Again Don't try to make it accurate, the ghosting takes care of that. Just draw it in with speed and full commitment.

in the funnels exercise there are gaps between ellipses, they should touch but not overlap. Like the following image

https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/26427b90.jpg

It should not be like the following

https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/30c662d0.jpg

The ellipses also suffer from the same problem stated above, wobbliness and that.

In the table of ellipses, Many ellipses do not touch the walls of the ellipse, some are not in contact with other ellipses. The pitfalls stated in the following image.

https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/7a41396e.jpg

The following image shows what we are aiming for, tight-knit ellipses, not overlapping but touching. Big or small.

https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/f4181ea2.jpg

I see You struggled with the small ellipses, treat this how you would a big ellipse. Drawing from the shoulder, ghost them and execute them with confidence. As well as drawn through at least twice.

Boxes

I do not see the plotted boxes exercise here. In the rough perspective the lines look scratchy, I can see you used multiple lines to make the edges of the boxes. You should be using one line. That is why we plot the lines. Then ghost them, SO we can focus entirely on making the mark with confidence. Maybe you rushed through it. The boxes are also not drawn through, all boxes should be drawn through. The only exception is the organic perspective exercise where it is optional. Keep in mind too that the vertical lines in rough perspective are perpendicular to the horizon, and the horizontal lines of the box are parallel to the horizon.

The rotated boxes can see you struggled with. Here plot all your lines for the boxes, I would advise looking at the video lesson and drawing along.

Start with the center box.

https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/5479c4d5.jpg

then visual aids, they represent a box tuned 90 degrees from our center box.

https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/0fa240d2.jpg

Look at the following, You draw stages of this rotation.

https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/a80224d8.gif

In the following image we add a box, rotating as you can see, just one box.

https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/12416ea8.jpg

If you keep adding more, using the previous box as reference for the new boxes rotation, you can get to the following.

https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/4018ab0f.jpg

(look at the rotated boxes' lesson again)

I will ask for revision

1 page ghosted lines

1 page plotted perspective( missing on the submission)

1 page rotated boxes(plot all lines , dont draw over lines, keep boxes tight-knit)

1 page table of ellipses

ghost all ellipses

draw with confidence

plot all lines

ghost all lines

draw with confidence

Take your time, dont rush, take breaks if you need to.

In the organic perspective the boxes seem to flow. The problem here is lines were drawn over.

Next Steps:

1 page ghosted lines

1 page plotted perspective( missing on the submission)

1 page rotated boxes(plot all lines , dont draw over lines, keep boxes tight knit)

1 page table of ellipses

Good luck you got this :)

thank you! here it is

Looks like you rushed through a lot of it. Take your time.

The lines look better.

When drawing ellipses ghost them where you want to place them until confident with the motion then speedily execute the ellipse. From your ellipses it looks like you are favoring confidence and drawing the ellipses slowly. The ellipses are also not drawn through.

For plotted perspective you should be using a ruler or straight edge. Pretty much anything ruler like. The boxes should be drawn through.

Take a blank page and draw random sized ellipses, focus on fast motion and free flowing. ghost random ellipses, then draw them in a fast motion. Don't try and make them accurate, commit to the circular motion when you draw them. Focus on speed and commitment to the motion. Dont try and correct the motion, or go slow. Confident fast motion.

For the rotated boxes, Copy the video lesson, line for line.

Plot al lines, I will ask for more revision

1 page rotated boxes (coppy the video lesson, line for line, plot all lines)

1 page ellipses

1 page free flowing ellipses

Good luck

Next Steps:

1 page rotated boxes (coppy the video lesson, line for line, plot all lines)

1 page free flowing ellipses (as described above)

1 page ellipses(draw through them)

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

I think there something wrong with your link, I am greeted by a white screen. Yeah shotke mentioned it below too

The recommendation below is an advertisement. Most of the links here are part of Amazon's affiliate program (unless otherwise stated), which helps support this website. It's also more than that - it's a hand-picked recommendation of something I've used myself. If you're interested, here is a full list.
Drawabox-Tested Fineliners (Pack of 10, $17.50 USD)

Drawabox-Tested Fineliners (Pack of 10, $17.50 USD)

Let's be real here for a second: fineliners can get pricey. It varies from brand to brand, store to store, and country to country, but good fineliners like the Staedtler Pigment Liner (my personal brand favourite) can cost an arm and a leg. I remember finding them being sold individually at a Michael's for $4-$5 each. That's highway robbery right there.

Now, we're not a big company ourselves or anything, but we have been in a position to periodically import large batches of pens that we've sourced ourselves - using the wholesale route to keep costs down, and then to split the savings between getting pens to you for cheaper, and setting some aside to one day produce our own.

These pens are each hand-tested (on a little card we include in the package) to avoid sending out any duds (another problem with pens sold in stores). We also checked out a handful of different options before settling on this supplier - mainly looking for pens that were as close to the Staedtler Pigment Liner. If I'm being honest, I think these might even perform a little better, at least for our use case in this course.

We've also tested their longevity. We've found that if we're reasonably gentle with them, we can get through all of Lesson 1, and halfway through the box challenge. We actually had ScyllaStew test them while recording realtime videos of her working through the lesson work, which you can check out here, along with a variety of reviews of other brands.

Now, I will say this - we're only really in a position to make this an attractive offer for those in the continental United States (where we can offer shipping for free). We do ship internationally, but between the shipping prices and shipping times, it's probably not the best offer you can find - though this may depend. We also straight up can't ship to the UK, thanks to some fairly new restrictions they've put into place relating to their Brexit transition. I know that's a bummer - I'm Canadian myself - but hopefully one day we can expand things more meaningfully to the rest of the world.
