Lesson 1: Lines, Ellipses and Boxes
5:50 AM, Saturday June 5th 2021
Still having trouble with the rotated boxes especially with the ones on the outer edges. Having a hard time picturing how the lines should converge towards the pv.
hi!
I I will try my best to help you with som contructuve critique. First of all your ellipses look good, symmetrical and even. maybe not draw through them so many times, two, maybe three is enough. In many cases thy look drawn through at least four times. Also your ghosted planes look good.
you could practice your lines more. they look a bit curved and/or wobbley. I do ghosted lines and planes and ellipses for 10-15 minutes as a warm up before I do the homework. it has helped me a lot to get the lines straight. I dont know if you already do this but If you dont I recommend it.
In the rough perspective excercise you have drawn the red lines to the VP, instead you should draw them from the parallell lines of your boxes to see where they end up. I Recommend that you take another look at the examples and instructions for this excercise.
dont worry about the rotaded boxes excercise, I can see that you have understood the excercice.
Next Steps:
one more page of the rough perspective excercie. 10-15 min of ghosted lines as warm up before each drawing session.
Here we're getting into the subjective - Gerald Brom is one of my favourite artists (and a pretty fantastic novelist!). That said, if I recommended art books just for the beautiful images contained therein, my list of recommendations would be miles long.
The reason this book is close to my heart is because of its introduction, where Brom goes explains in detail just how he went from being an army brat to one of the most highly respected dark fantasy artists in the world today. I believe that one's work is flavoured by their life's experiences, and discovering the roots from which other artists hail can help give one perspective on their own beginnings, and perhaps their eventual destination as well.
