Hello and congrats on completing lesson one. I'll be taking a look at your submission today. Your superimposed lines are off to a fine start. You are keeping a clearly defined starting point with minimal wavering except on longer lines and curves which is normal. Your ghosted lines and planes turned out very well. You are doing a great job using the ghosting method to get confident linework with a pretty decent degree of accuracy that will get better the more you practice.

Your table of ellipses is looking quite nice. You are doing a fantastic job drawing through your ellipses and it's great to see you are focusing on a smooth ellipse shape overall. This is being carried over very nicely into your ellipses in planes. Your ellipses in funnels turned out pretty well. I think you could do a slightly better job at starting with a narrower degree ellipse in the center and then widening the degrees of the ellipses as they move outwards in the funnel. Plotted perspective looks great nothing to mention here. Your rough perspective boxes turned out pretty well for the most part. There are some occasional spots where your line is wavering a bit. This might be happening to you because you are reverting to drawing from your wrist on shorter lines so that is something you can look out for. Always try and draw from your shoulder with confidence. Even on short lines. Your wrist should be reserved for detail work only. Other than that you did a good job extending the lines back on your boxes to check your work. As you can see some of your perspective estimations were a bit off but that will become more intuitive over time with practice.

Your rotated box exercise was a decent attempt. Your linework is looking nice and crisp and you did a great job drawing through your boxes. This kinda fell apart on you a little because you weren't very consistent with the gaps between your boxes which is a pretty common issue that some students have this exercise. https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/16/guessing This is a hard exercise and a good one to come back to after the 250 box challenge to see how much your spatial thinking ability has improved. Your organic perspective exercise is a bit of a mixed bag. Your line quality is excellent and it's great to see you getting such good results from the ghosting method. However, your box constructions are definitely a weak point still so the 250 box challenge is going to be really good practice for you.

This was a really nice submission overall and you showed real growth in terms of line quality and confidence and your ellipses are coming along quite nicely. I think you are understanding most of the concepts these lessons are trying to teach very well. I'm going to mark this as complete and good luck on the 250 box challenge!

Thank you very much for your feedback! Do you think at some point I should retry the rotated boxes / organic perspective exercises? Or should all exercises from lesson 1 be included in the 10-15m warmup?

You can use any of the exercises you feel you need to work on from lesson 1 in your warmups. I would give the rotated box exercise another shot after the 250 box challenge as it takes longer than the rest of the exercises usually and is a bit more challenging.

The reason I hold this book in such high esteem is because of how it puts the relatively new field of game art into perspective, showing how concept art really just started off as crude sketches intended to communicate ideas to storytellers, designers and 3D modelers. How all of this focus on beautiful illustrations is really secondary to the core of a concept artist's job. A real eye-opener.
