Hi there Community! Finally I'm back after a 2 months break from the Draw a box with the lesson 4 assignments.

had lots of fun and learned a lot throughout this lesson and I had developed a uncanny Interest in insects and Arachnids at the end of this lesson XD.

I convey my heartfelt thanks to Uncomfortable and Folks on the discord server.

I am very thankful for the person who takes time in their day to look at my work and offer any advices they might have.So thats all from my side. I'm ready to take notes on what you guys thought on this Attempt.

Hi I'll be handling the critique for your lesson 4.

-Starting with the organic forms you're doing great, but remember to stick to the characteristics of simple sausages, try to make both ends of the sausages spherical, and avoid any ends of unequal size. Also keep in mind the degree shifts of these contour curves, I can see you are keeping them in mind, you only need consistency when it comes to these.

-Moving on to your constructions, your work is coming along pretty nicely but I want to make a few suggestions.

  • You are definitely starting from simple to complex when constructing your drawings, the first masses taht you put in your drawing tend to be very simple, and your marks tend to be very faint, when you dd the additional masses and detail they tend to get much darker. Don't do this, draw every mark with the same confidence, doesn't matter which step in the process you are in, don't worry about hiding things or organizing your strokes. You can add lineweight at the end to reinforce a kind of hierarchy in your lines but working this way can cause us to interact more with our drawings as though they're just that - drawings on a flat page - rather than solid, three dimensional structures.

This is a problem that can be asily seen in your tree hopper and the bee assassin.

-Now let's talk about the way you constructed legs, your approach is different from case to case, remember that we want to stick to simple sausages here, this ways we can capture the gestural flow and the solidity of the legs at the same time, once we have that in place we can use it as a frame in which we add the different layers of complexity. This method isn't about capturing the legs precisely as they are. This is something that shows up in your early drawimg but seems you corrected it as you went.

-Also I'm noticing that in some of your drawings you are leaving a considerable amount of empty space, this suggests to me that you may be a little eager to jump at the construction but always take time to consider things like the spacing, this is something that you definitely want to keep in mind for the next lesson.

-When it comes to the additional masses you are doing a good job of not cutting into the silhouette of the forms, but you are altering it when it comes to adding more complex structures to your forms. a good expample of this is the abdomen of the ant. Instead, whenever we want to build upon our construction or change something, we can do so by introducing new 3D forms to the structure, and by establishing how those forms either connect or relate to what's already present in our 3D scene. We can do this either by defining the intersection between them with contour lines (like in lesson 2's form intersections exercise), or by wrapping the silhouette of the new form around the existing structure as shown here.

Ultimately, this is what you keep in mind: every single mark you put down introduces something solid and three dimensional to the scene. Nothing you produce exists in two dimensions. Even those early masses you put down need to be treated as though they're solid masses, as though they're made of marble. Then, as you hold that illusion firmly in your mind, you can build upon those structures, gradually working your way towards your desired end result.

-Now as a final note regarding the texture, you are doing great I don't see you slipping back into forms shading which is good, there are some sketchy lines here and there but I would say your work is quite good in this regard.
