Hi EstabanUnlimited,

I've checked your submission,

Organic Arrows show that you are exploring the 2d space pretty well, but they don't really look like they go deep into the page. A few recommendations for this would be to make the arrows bigger as they get closer to the viewer, and also make the spaces between the turns of the arrow exponentially bigger as they get closer.

Leaves look pretty solid, but be careful to not undermine you already constructed, here it's a quick demonstration on what I mean. Also, you could try to exagerate a little more the flow to practice more interesting directions and flexions.

Branches show are fine in the ghosting aspect, but are not varying the degrees on you ellipses, this is a very important element to create the illusion of depth, so take it into account.

On to your Plants

Overall they are looking pretty solid in the construction sense, I don't wanna repeat myself but remember to vary the degrees of the ellipses and also to not cut into your construction.

One thing I wanted to touch on though was your use of shadows, first of all remember that the shadow follows the form that is being cast on. Taking this out of the way, also remember that shadows can be a tool of communicating things to the viewer, for example what is on top of what, and also to make things clearer. Here I draw on top of one of your plants that look confusing and clarify things with shadows and line weight (I know that is pretty exaggerated, but don''t be to shy with your shadows). Also, you can really use this same tools to create focal points where the viewer eyes will be forced to look into.

One last thing I wanted to ask you is to please organized the submission so its easier for the one reviewing, try to rotate the images so they are easier to analyse and also to put the submission in order so the one seeing your work can see the progression.

I'm gonna mark this lesson as completed! Keep it up.

Next Steps:

Move on to lesson 4

Thank you for taking the time to critique my work! I definetely had a lot of trouble with ellipses, so I'll care when doing them next time. Your critique is very useful, I'll use your points carefully as I go on to later lessons.

Thanks!

I'm glad you found it useful!

Like the Staedtlers, these also come in a set of multiple weights - the ones we use are F. One useful thing in these sets however (if you can't find the pens individually) is that some of the sets come with a brush pen (the B size). These can be helpful in filling out big black areas.

Still, I'd recommend buying these in person if you can, at a proper art supply store. They'll generally let you buy them individually, and also test them out beforehand to weed out any duds.
