hello JIAQUAN you've submitted your first drawabox lesson, congratulations for getting started. i'll critique youe work now.

Lines:

On the superimposed lines part you seem to be hesitating and that caused the lines to be some what wobbly, remember always execute your lines with confidence. Anoter point it seems that the lines you made are curving you may not be executing the lines with your shoulder or your shoulders are naturally accostomed to making curvy lines to counteract this you can try and curve the lines the opposite way and make it straight again i also suggest you go through the lesson 1 material again in case you're not executing the lines with youe shoulder

on the ghosted lines you did very well however do keep in mind that you should try to make the lines connect the two dots you seem to be over shooting abit you can try to life your pen when you reach the other dot to make the lines not overshoot

you did well ghosting the planes however i noticed that some of the lines are curving this may be due to you lacking confidence in your execution go through the lesson 1 material again make sure to scrutinize it.

ellipses:

you did not have confedence in making the ellipses try ghosting them before you make them like ghostig lines.

the ellipses in planes is also well executed no fault here

you seemed to have forgotten to add the funnel exercise make sure to add that before you move on

boxes:

you seemed to have made the lines on the plotted perspective willy nilly make sure te lines are parallel since they are 2 point perspective boxes

your rough perspective are correctly made however i noticed you going over youe mistakes twice, remember mistakes are okay do not go over them to hide it.

your rotarting box assignment you did well not going over your mistakes twice even if they're curvy welldone the boxes them self however they dont seem to be rotating much especially the ones on the corner, this is however acceptable since we dont expect perfection what you should keep in mind though is that all lines in 3 point perspective should converge to a single point the lines here as far as i can observe seemed to be diverging at some point

organic perspective you did not do a good job describing the depth of the image bt making the boxes smaller remember: the further away a box is the smaller it gets you also went over your mistakes many times in this exercise, DO NOT GO OVER YOUR MISTAKES they're perfectly acceptable do not try and mask it with more lines, also when you construct the Ys remember that all angle should be greater than 90° or the boxes you made will look distorted and all lines should converge to a single vanishing point here.

GoodJob on making it this far you can move on to the 250 boxes challenge after you submit the funnel exercise

Next Steps:

add the funnel revision before you move on to the 250 boxes challenge.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

It's alright mistakes happens.

for the funnel exercise i noticed that the ellipses you made are extremely wobbly, good ellipses should be executed with confidence. try ghosting the ellipses for as many time as possible before you put down the mark you have all the time in the world to do this so please take your time and give it your all for every mark you made. In fact when i looked back at your exercises it seems that you were trying to get through the course as fast as you could, this is somewhat concerning, the point of these courses aren't to be done as quickly as possible; it is to teach you the ways of mark marking and to give us to visualize things in 3D. the chances of getting these goals would greatly diminish as you rush through them hence once you step in to the next exercise i highly suggest that you would take your time to make every single mark you make the best one you could with your abilities. This isn't a race, not a marathon even the creator of this course describe the journey you're taking as something more of a cross continental journey so take your time and dont try to rush it alright? Also try to incorporate the ellipses, ghosted planes and superimposed lines to your warm up routine you'll need to practice them a lot and maybe consider going over the lesson material again too there's plenty of pointers in them that'll help you tremendously.

Next Steps:

move on to the 250 boxes challenge

This community member feels the lesson should be marked as complete, and 2 others agree. The student has earned their completion badge for this lesson and should feel confident in moving onto the next lesson.

Ellipse Master Template

Ellipse Master Template

This recommendation is really just for those of you who've reached lesson 6 and onwards.

I haven't found the actual brand you buy to matter much, so you may want to shop around. This one is a "master" template, which will give you a broad range of ellipse degrees and sizes (this one ranges between 0.25 inches and 1.5 inches), and is a good place to start. You may end up finding that this range limits the kinds of ellipses you draw, forcing you to work within those bounds, but it may still be worth it as full sets of ellipse guides can run you quite a bit more, simply due to the sizes and degrees that need to be covered.

No matter which brand of ellipse guide you decide to pick up, make sure they have little markings for the minor axes.
