Post with 0 views. Greenys Drawabox Lesson one!

Hello! This is my first crack at all the homework that lesson one contains. I know i did it in pencil, like my friend did the other day. This is my first time posting; and i have some previous experience with drawing but nothing really serious or long term. Would love some feedback and such, as im going to move onto the 250 box challenge as the next thing to do. Going to continue to try my best as i progress through all the lessons. Thanks in advance.

I think it would be valuable for you to repeat at least once page of each exercise in pen, these beginning lessons exercises will help you get used to drawing with a pen and are much more useful to you with the proper tools. As someone who used a different tool the first time through this lesson, take it from me, the proper pen really changes the experience.

In addition, take your time with the ghosting method and aim for nice, smooth, straight lines, It's better to get a clean line that doesn't land on target than a curvy wobbly line that does.

Goodluck on your future drawing endeavors!! You've got this.

Next Steps:

Re-do one page of each individual exercise in pen.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Thanks for the reply, i was beginning to think that my submission had slipped through the cracks and wasnt going to get a reply, no issue with it being late, infact im going to apologise for this reply being late to you~

I realise that i should be using a pen, as it is different from using a pencil. So I'll see if i can get my hands on some pens sooner rather than later.

In terms of ghosting, there is a fine line between going so slow that my mind tries to course correct the line im making, and doing it so fast that i kinda lose control of what im doing - The ellipse ends up not being a consistent size, or i end up missing the end point of my line. I'm still working on that as im doing lesson 2 right now.

Thanks again for the reply, sorry that THIS is late too ^-^

Ellipse Master Template

Ellipse Master Template

This recommendation is really just for those of you who've reached lesson 6 and onwards.

I haven't found the actual brand you buy to matter much, so you may want to shop around. This one is a "master" template, which will give you a broad range of ellipse degrees and sizes (this one ranges between 0.25 inches and 1.5 inches), and is a good place to start. You may end up finding that this range limits the kinds of ellipses you draw, forcing you to work within those bounds, but it may still be worth it as full sets of ellipse guides can run you quite a bit more, simply due to the sizes and degrees that need to be covered.

No matter which brand of ellipse guide you decide to pick up, make sure they have little markings for the minor axes.
