Post with 10 views. Boxes!

Hello again, Drawabox community!

Please, take a look at my attempts at Boxes. Any commentary, critique or advice will be highly appreciated.

The last batch before I move to 250 boxes challenge. But before that I need to know if I am really ready.

P.s.: I'll get a new pen ASAP, it's just a bit complicated. A small town I live in doesn't really have art/org supplies stores (have to check that out), so I might need to get them from nearest city.

Thanks in advance!

Looks good~ I’d point out the automatic reinforcing, but it seems like that’s as a result of your pen, more so than you, so I’ll let it slide. I’d still appreciate a broken line more so that the mess that is a superimposed line, though. It’s a lot harder to judge your confidence, like that. I’d also mention the inconsistent foreshortening in the organic perspective exercise, but since you’re a ways into the box challenge, at this point, I’m guessing that’s fixed, too.

Congrats on finishing this lesson, and good luck on the next!

Again, thanks a lot for the review! You are real MVP!

Automatic reinforcing is one of my worst habits I battle to fix. Sometimes I'll just reinforce some lines subconsciously. I used to sketch a lot without using much of confidence, so my drawings mostly ended up being barely readable with all random lines just lying down everywhere. This is one of the main reasons why I even started learning from DAB.

I am about to do my 200th box today so I'll say forshortening still can be a problem, but not in such degree.

Thanks again. I am so excited to move on after I finish my first basic challenge!

Like the Staedtlers, these also come in a set of multiple weights - the ones we use are F. One useful thing in these sets however (if you can't find the pens individually) is that some of the sets come with a brush pen (the B size). These can be helpful in filling out big black areas.

Still, I'd recommend buying these in person if you can, at a proper art supply store. They'll generally let you buy them individually, and also test them out beforehand to weed out any duds.
