I'm pretty sure this isn't the worst one you've ever seen, but I have tried.

Thanks for spending your time looking at my lame lines.

Hey ,

Congrats on completing Lesson 1. Here are my thoughts on your submission:

Superimposed Lines A bit to much fraying in the middle and at the ends. This will be important later on when adding line weight, so don't forget about it just yet.

Ghosted Lines A bit wobbly. Maybe allow yourself some(just a little) elbow support, so your hand isn't completely in air, but also not fully fixed. This might make your lines more consistent. Maybe also try drawing on a tilted surface. And keep in mind to draw from your shoulder.

Table of Ellipses Not too bad. There is some fraying but that is to be expected.

Ellipses in Planes Not the best line quality for in planes but the ellipses are pretty good. You are overshooting edges a lot but it's good you are trusting your ghosts and prioritizing confidence over accuracy.

Funnels Some are a bit wobbly. Find a suitable setting (posture, angle of approach, right angle for tilting the page), this will help you improve faster.

Rough Perspective Lines are still wobbly. Always rotate the page and remember to ghost enough times.

Rotated boxes Line quality got better. No shading or line weight but I think this was optional. Rotation is good on the upper layer, but you struggled with it on the lower layer, you should have planned it out better.

Organic Perspective Decent line quality. My only issue are those questionable attempts at adding line weight. Remember to ghost those superimposed lines before you add them on top a line.

Next Steps:

250 Boxes

Practice some ghosted lines and superimposed lines for about 10 minutes before drawing, this should get you started.

Thanks alot for the insights, much appreciated. Never would've guessed I would get such a good and informational critique in such a low amount of time. Will move on onto the boxes... Wish me luck!

The Art of Brom

The Art of Brom

Here we're getting into the subjective - Gerald Brom is one of my favourite artists (and a pretty fantastic novelist!). That said, if I recommended art books just for the beautiful images contained therein, my list of recommendations would be miles long.

The reason this book is close to my heart is because of its introduction, where Brom goes explains in detail just how he went from being an army brat to one of the most highly respected dark fantasy artists in the world today. I believe that one's work is flavoured by their life's experiences, and discovering the roots from which other artists hail can help give one perspective on their own beginnings, and perhaps their eventual destination as well.
