Hey Rotscherno, I'll be taking a look at your submission!

Organic Arrows & Forms:

  • They're smooth & confidently drawn from shoulder.

  • For lineweight, don't slowly trace the previous mark(it results in wobbly lines), make sure you avoid it & always ghost before doing them. Also for arrows, you should be applying lineweight where they overlap to show which portion is facing the viewer.

  • Nice work on changing the degree of contour ellipses & curves as the viewein angle changes.

  • You've kept ellipses aligned to the minor. Sometimes your contour curves are not touching the boundaries but for most part you're doing great, keep ghosting before each curves & with practice it should be no problem.

Texture Analysis:

  • Your transitions from dark to light in these texture is really good & done gradually.

  • Though for cast shadows it would be better if you could avoid or keep lines like shadows to minimum & only if they're taken from reference(not random lines please). This is how you should be approaching them https://imgur.com/M9JJfr4, first you outline the shadow & then fill it(even when they look lines simple lines).

Dissections:

  • Your textures are wrapping around the form & you've maintained a nice silhouette for each forms(except honeycomb maybe, yeah it hard).

  • Good work on doing the texture with varying detail density with the use of light.

Form Intersections:

  • Your 3D forms feels consistent with each other.

For some intersections I feel like you followed the contour lines of one shape but forgot about the other. Like for box & pyramid in page 3, you're missing intersection for left face of pyramid & the box

  • Your intersections are mostly well placed, keep practicing them & also look at work of others to see how they placed such intersections(it helped me a lot).

Organic Intersections:

  • You are drawing through your forms but feels like you've kept most of the back portion of the forms above the forms below it. Don't be afraid to overlap these forms, they will feel much more natural.

  • Second page of this exercise could use some stability, so those forms don't fall from their surface(keep this in mind when doing them in warm ups).

Overall

For the most part you've done amazing work in the exercises, you can work toward stuff like lineweight, stability of organic forms in warm ups.

EDIT: This is strange but I'm not sure if I saw previous feedback on this submission, feel free to ignore this.

Next Steps:

Congrats! you've finished lesson 2, now start lesson 3.

Good luck on part 2 of draw a box!

This community member feels the lesson should be marked as complete, and 2 others agree. The student has earned their completion badge for this lesson and should feel confident in moving onto the next lesson.

The Art of Blizzard Entertainment

While I have a massive library of non-instructional art books I've collected over the years, there's only a handful that are actually important to me. This is one of them - so much so that I jammed my copy into my overstuffed backpack when flying back from my parents' house just so I could have it at my apartment. My back's been sore for a week.

The reason I hold this book in such high esteem is because of how it puts the relatively new field of game art into perspective, showing how concept art really just started off as crude sketches intended to communicate ideas to storytellers, designers and 3D modelers. How all of this focus on beautiful illustrations is really secondary to the core of a concept artist's job. A real eye-opener.
