Hi plantsonhead,
Thanks for submitting your homework for lesson 1!
Here's my critique:
Overall I think the main thing you need to improve upon is confident lines. This is especially evident in your ellipses. I hope my notes below can help.
1. Lines
- I'm noticing quite a bit of wobble in your lines. Prioritise confidence over accuracy when it comes to lines.
See this example: https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/5bcda336.jpg
A wobbly line can mean you've tried to draw the line accurately, going slow. It could also be that your drawing surface is uneven, or you're not drawing from your shoulder.
-
In superimposed lines you aren't fraying the line at the starting dot, this is good. It means you're placing your pen carefully to start the line. Keep this up.
-
I'm seeing a little bit of arching in your lines - in ghosted planes particularly. This might be because you're not using your shoulder.
-
You are plotting your lines with points first before drawing the line. Keep this up.
2. Ellipses
-
You've done a good job with placing the ellipses, there's not much overlapping or going outside of the bounds of the tables. Keep this up.
-
In funnels, the minor axis (middle line) cuts the ellipses in 2 symetrical halves. Keep this up.
-
Overall though your ellipses look quite wobbly and I think you need to work on this - the lines could be much more confident.
3. Boxes
-
In rough perspective your width lines are parallel to the horizon and your height lines are perpendicular - good work.
-
In rotated boxes some of the outer boxes look like you maybe gave up, and the line quality here starts to get a bit worse (wobbly).
-
In general I think your boxes could use some work. Your lines in ghosted lines and ghosted planes are pretty good - I'd love to see the lines of your boxes like this as well.
Next Steps:
I'd request that you revisit and submit the following:
-
Two more pages of tables of ellipses - the goal here is to get confident ellipses without wobble. Make sure you draw these from your shoulder and be really confident with it.
-
One more page of rough perspective - the goal here is to reinforce a confident straight line. I think you're quite good at this in ghosted lines, but you need to apply this to your boxes too.
