Hey all, recently finished lesson 1! This took place over the course of almost a year since I lost motivation, but now I'm doing my best to keep drawing regularly.

Main things that have been already identified by the good folks at Discord is that I need to focus more on line quality. I've mostly neglected that due to not doing drawing seriously for a long time, so line confidence & accuracy are gonna be one of my main focuses during warmups.

As always, critique, guidance, & tips on how to improve are highly appreciated, thanks all!!

Glad that you self-critiqued and noticed what you needed to focus on! For that reason, I'm going to keep this critique very straight to the point and concise, mainly because a lot of your mistakes are things that will fade with practice so I'll focus on more major ones.

Ellipses: A bit wobbly, I suggest either Table or Funnels for warmups. Line confidence is key but don't neglect quality in areas like these.

Funnels: Two of your funnels have ellipses where the degree does not change. Remember, the closer to the center of the funnel, the smaller the degree of the ellipse.

These are the only major mistakes I found not directly regarding line confidence. I apologize for the shorter crit, but I think you have a strong sense of what you need to do to improve. Good luck!

Next Steps:

Do the 250 box challenge , and choose 2-3 warmups. I recommend ghosted lines, funnels, and a third of your choice.

Thank you so much for your help! I'm relieved that these things will get better with time & practise.

I've been incorporating Funnels into my warmup routine with the Ghosted Planes exercise for a while. Hopefully I improved, though it's hard to say when many of my ellipses are still very messy (example of my most recent warmups https://imgur.com/Qfd752a). I'll keep in mind to also include the Table of Ellipses exercise.

Thanks again! I've already started the 250 Box Challenge, now it's just a matter of patience haha

Pentel Pocket Brush Pen

Pentel Pocket Brush Pen

This is a remarkable little pen. Technically speaking, any brush pen of reasonable quality will do, but I'm especially fond of this one. It's incredibly difficult to draw with (especially at first) due to how much your stroke varies based on how much pressure you apply, and how you use it - but at the same time despite this frustration, it's also incredibly fun.

Moreover, due to the challenge of its use, it teaches you a lot about the nuances of one's stroke. These are the kinds of skills that one can carry over to standard felt tip pens, as well as to digital media. Really great for doodling and just enjoying yourself.
