If you notice a drop off in quality around halfway through the challenge, it's because I came back to it after taking an involuntary break for a couple of months due to schoolwork. Hopefully it's still good enough to move on to the next lesson--I would really appreciate honest critiques!

Hello, greysun! Congratulations on completing the 250 box challenge, and happy new years :) I'll be reviewing your work.

After an initial scroll, I see you've made quite a lot of progress through this challenge. You've made considerable improvements in linework. Lines are much more confident and straight. Hatching is also done fairly neat. If you ever feel yourself hesitating on a line, here's a comment by Uncomfortable which further explains that topic. You've made some improvement in your lineweight, it is much more subtle in your later boxes. I noticed that as you progressed through the challenge, the boxes you've made consist mainly of dramatic foreshortening. This may be your previous boxes (1-20 for example) had diverging lines. You may wanted to have more pronounced VPs to correct your past errors. I did this as well. I recommend for you to practice boxes with shallow foreshortening in your warmup. Though, I can see your convergences improve drastically. In the beginning of the challenge, you extended your lines wrong and there were quite a few divergences but you have made very nice improvements. Lines are properly converging to 3 VPs. Here's the famous diagram that you've probably seen in discord which may further help with boxes that have shallow foreshortening. It explains how you can compare the angles between the lines, and how they relate to one another.

Overall, you did well in this challenge and made vast improvements that you should definitely be proud of. I'm happy to mark this as complete! Good luck on lesson 2 - also don't forget to practice boxes in your warmup.

Thank you so much Brianna! The boxes I made after ~box 50 started to become more dramatic because I got a critique in the discord that I wasn't making enough boxes with dramatic foreshortening, and I think I overcompensated. I will definitely focus on boxes with shallow foreshortening to correct my overcompensation for warmups, thanks again for the detailed critique!

Like the Staedtlers, these also come in a set of multiple weights - the ones we use are F. One useful thing in these sets however (if you can't find the pens individually) is that some of the sets come with a brush pen (the B size). These can be helpful in filling out big black areas.

Still, I'd recommend buying these in person if you can, at a proper art supply store. They'll generally let you buy them individually, and also test them out beforehand to weed out any duds.
