Hi, Just to say, I'm still a beginner myself and I just handed in my homework for lesson 1 a couple days ago. So think of this not as expert feedback but more as a sugession from someone at your level.

1-1: Pretty clean imo.

1-2: you're overshooting a little. I don't personally think that's a huge deal but again this is where I'd like to see someone who know what they're talking about chip in. Maybe ask as a query what could be done of it.

1-3: Ghosted planes look clean. I like them.

1-4:Table looks clean too. some of them aren't touching but that's more than acceptable at this point. Also, :)

1-5: Again, clean. Top left of page 2 looks a little shaky like you dropped your line confidence for a moment. but otherwise it's perfect imo.

1-6: No real change in degree of the ellipses. apart from that I think you're more than done.

1-7: clean, all good.

1-8: You need to ghost your lines more and maybe rewatch the video on perspective. Some of the lines are diverging where they should be converging so that's a place to improve. Also remember, you can ghost past where you want the line to end and then just draw upto where the line really ends. Other than that It's done imo. if you just rewatch that lesson and then move along it's good enough.

1-9:Looks good imo. you've kinda made the same mistake as me by changing from squares to rectangles over time but it looks correct for the most part. However, remember that as the boxes turn, they'd have a tighter angle inwards going along the up-down axis.

1-10: Increase box density to help sell the effect more.

Apart from all that i've said I feel like you've absolutely learned a lot from this lesson. I can scroll up and down and see a big difference in line quality and confidence. I'd say you're ready to move along to the 250 box challenge.

P.s.: I've not gotten any feedback for my work yet so if you've learned from anything I said consider looking at my submission and helping me out.

Next Steps:

250 box followed by lesson 2.

I want to add some things I've noticed:

For Ghosted Planes and Tables of Ellipses, you didn't make good use of the space available in the paper. Check those exercises' "it should look like this" images.

Also, you did not fully draw all boxes in the Rotated Boxes exercise. Top right is where this is most obvious, but it's also noticeable on bottom right and top left. This leads me to the second point: you didn't pay proper attention to the back faces. Of the ones you did draw, many are rectangles, when they should be rotated and angled similarly to the front face.

Hi Bodaciousss,

These are your major issues. I am saying this to help you. Many of your pages were well done and you can and will improve in time. Taking what other critiquers said into account, please see the following:

Superimposed lines - Please make sure that you have the same starting point for each superimposed line. Ghosting may help you here.

Your Ghosted lines, Ghosted Ellipses in planes, your second Table of Ellipses pages look mostly empty. Please consider filling more page space. Also, you did not draw all of the required lines for the ghosted ellipses in planes exercise. Your plane should have. two diagonal lines, 1 horizontal line, and 1 vertical line. Basically it should look like an X with a + plus sign merged. Many of these you did correctly, others you left this out.

Not an insult, but your rotated boxes exercise was done incorrectly. Please watch and read the material again: https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/rotatedboxes and don't be afraid to use the completed homework example of rotated boxes as a reference.

I know you can do it! Don't give up!

Lars,

Next Steps:

Next steps:

1 page of Superimposed lines (Recall the starting point and to align your pen tip each and every time)

1 page of Ghosted lines (take advantage of page space)

1 page of Ghosted Ellipses in planes

1 page of Tables of ellipses

1 page of the rotated boxes exercise (Please make sure you reread the instructions for this one)

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Cottonwood Arts Sketchbooks

These are my favourite sketchbooks, hands down. Move aside Moleskine, you overpriced gimmick. These sketchbooks are made by entertainment industry professionals down in Los Angeles, with concept artists in mind. They have a wide variety of sketchbooks, such as toned sketchbooks that let you work both towards light and towards dark values, as well as books where every second sheet is a semitransparent vellum.
