Finally finished lesson 1!

I've never drawn before so this was a great introduction.

I can already see areas I need to improve in terms of confidence in my marks, making sure I'm always using my shoulder and definitely need to work on my boxes...

I only did the exercises the specified number of times. I really wanted to grind them but it really helped with the perfectionism to know I could only do at most 2 tries so hopefully future warmups with them will be better.

Hi there,

Congrats on completion your Lesson 1!

Some feedback from me:

  • your superimposed lines look good. They’re smooth, properly lined up at the start, and of a consistent trajectory.

  • The ghosted lines/planes are fairly confident, too. You’ve kept them smooth and straight, the whole way through.

  • The table of ellipses exercise looks mostly good. There are some pointy ellipses, which are usually a resut of elbow/wrist use instead of shoulder.

  • The ellipses in planes are mostly good. I see some pointy ellipses again, but mostly they maintain their smoothness/roundness.

  • The funnels look solid. Just be sure that the minor axis extends all the way through your ellipses; or, conversely, if there’s no more minor axis, simply don’t add another ellipse – it’ll be one aligned to nothing, and that’s not of much use to the exersice. With the one which you tried to squeeze in a corner of a page - I think it's better to avoid doing this, as the ellipses were quite distorted and this does not add any value to the exersice.

  • The plotted perspective exercise looks clean.

  • The rough perspective exercise will need some practice - I think you can incorporate this practice in your warm-up routine. Keep in mind that in addition to drawing the box itself the exersice also includes checking your depth lines. This will show us a concrete idea of how far off we were.

  • The rotated boxes exercise looks Ok. Their rotation is off from time to time, but this is a very difficult exersice and nobody is expected to do it perfectly from the fist try! I'm sure you'll have a lot of practice going through 250 boxes challenge ;)

  • The organic perspective exercise generally looks good. Mostly your boxes flow as intended as per their increase in size, and consistent, shallow foreshortening. In one instance the size was pretty much the same for all boxes - this is probably the only thing which could be improved.

Overall - good job, and good luck with the box challenge!

Move to the 250 box challenge - you'll have a lot or practice with it!
