Hello! I'll be critiquing your 250 boxes challenge

first of all, congratulations on overcoming this major challenge. where many have given up, you persevered.

now for the critique:

1) I'm glad you added some hatching to your boxes- it's a good practice. however, your hatched lines are often floating between the boxes. if you read the instructions on the 250 box, it says that hatching is a great opportunity to practice ghosting- making sure your lines are straight and touch both ends of the plane.

2) Your main struggle appears to be the back corner/edge of the box. this is a pretty common area of difficulty amongst students. however, it does appear that your understand the fundamental concept behind how the lines should be placed, which is more important.

3) your boxes were drawn in many different angles. experimentation is a great habit to keep up! the only thing I would say is that I didn't see much variety in the sizes (heights and widths) of your boxes.

none of these are major errors. Also, it looks like you made tremendous improvement! In the future during warm-ups, I hope you keep the above points in mind.

Next Steps:

Take a break. When you're ready, move on to Lesson 2.

The Art of Brom

The Art of Brom

Here we're getting into the subjective - Gerald Brom is one of my favourite artists (and a pretty fantastic novelist!). That said, if I recommended art books just for the beautiful images contained therein, my list of recommendations would be miles long.

The reason this book is close to my heart is because of its introduction, where Brom goes explains in detail just how he went from being an army brat to one of the most highly respected dark fantasy artists in the world today. I believe that one's work is flavoured by their life's experiences, and discovering the roots from which other artists hail can help give one perspective on their own beginnings, and perhaps their eventual destination as well.
