Slabang in the post "Lesson 6: Drawing Everyday Objects"

Thanks for the quick response! I'll get on those 4 extra drawings, I'll admit I wasn't happy either about most of those drawings.

About my questions about figure drawing and such, I'll check out the proko figure drawing videos. One thing I've been confused with is whether I should limit my time when drawing the figure or not. My assumption is that I should do gesture drawings where I limit my time and construction/proportion practice where I take my time. Also, when it comes to construction, do you recommend constructing figures from reference or creating poses from scratch with proportion in mind?

http://imgur.com/a/NsuEm Here's my homework. Self-criticism: I think I mostly had trouble making the encapsulating box and I don't think I utilised subdividing the planes of my boxes enough.

Since I only have a couple lessons left I was wondering if you had any advice of what to check out after I've done them. No courses I've found online are as clear when it comes to exercises as this one is, the lessons have simple, useful techniques (like the encapsulating box in this lesson) but more importantly they make me feel like I've "grasped the basics" of drawing the subject, as vague as that is. Other courses I've found online provide a lot of the former but don't help at all with the latter. Figure drawing is probably the thing I'm struggling the most with.

Maybe lesson 8 will help me grasp figure drawing as well, but still, If you have any advice for what to get into/daily exercises to after I finish my first go-through of this course, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks!

Hey! I've been struggling with lesson 6 (and with my local art store not refilling their Micron supply) so I thought I'd redo lesson 1, as it's been a while.

Hey! I redid the challenge. I realized a while ago that I was mostly using my elbow and not my shoulder to draw, so I'm trying to fix that. I feel like I get the technique now but I still mess up a lot when making straight lines, about 50 % of the time even. It's really frustrating because I don't know if I just lack practice or if I've misunderstood the technique. I'm thinking of fully redoing lessons 1 and 2, good idea?

Sweet! Thanks for the feedback. I've been drawing a lot more recently so I thought the pledge was fair, hope I can increase it in the future.

All four are construction only. Also FYI, I honestly never really understood how to draw from the shoulder but I decided to look more into it today and I think I've corrected my technique a bit. It does feel a lot more awkward and clumsy as I'm not yet used to it, so if you notice a difference between the dik-dik and the seal then that's probably it.

Will do! Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks! I wasn't very happy with them either so I'll put some cylinders on my daily to-do list. I did put down the minor axis first, so the fact that it isn't centered is just sloppiness/lack of practice.

Hey! I finished this a while ago but it's just been laying in a drawer. I haven't practiced much on cylinders since then but I get it if you think I should redo it to be more up to date with my skills. http://imgur.com/a/10cGD

Finally finished mine, I said last time that I was gonna do the texture challenge at the same time as doing this lesson but (as you might notice from my textures) I haven't done it yet. Also some drawings are cut off, but that's me messing up and not my scanner. http://imgur.com/a/lag1t

Sweet! Alright, jumping onto the next one. I'll check out the texture challenge, making one a day makes sense.

Thanks!

Hi! I just finished my 10 pages but after re-reading the homework section again I kinda realized that I had completely forgotten about the part that said to dedicate each page to a given insect. I'm guessing I'll have to redo the lesson but I'll post what I drew anyways. Feel free to check it out, if you want.

Thanks!

Hey! Thanks for the advice, this is an amazing amount of feedback. I jumped on the warm-up exercises and tried to draw some more plants, I'll probaly do some more tomorrow and update this post. Trying to hammer non-sloppiness into my head but I'll admit that I kinda drift off sometimes when drawing something repetitively, gonna try and practice that bad habit away.

Hey! Been working on these for a pretty long while now, to be honest that's mostly because of laziness. They're listed in a rough timeline from first drawing to last.

Also, possibly a dumb question, but are you supposed to mark your post to show that you're a patreon supporter? I'm pledging under my reddit username.

Thanks! I guess I misunderstood the correction part, oops. I did try varying line weight but I'm having a hard time getting a big difference just based on the pressure I'm applying, am I supposed to go back and fill in the lines even further?

Another question, although I'm not too sure how to describe it: Are the "middle lines" never supposed to cross? I'm talking about the edge closest to the viewer and its counterpart on the other side of the box. It's something I intentionally started to try to avoid for myself because I thought it looked weird, but I'm not sure if it's another absolute "rule", like with far planes and near planes.

Hey! Finally done with this. I personally feel like it's a bit inconsistent so I'm not too happy with my submission, but overall i'm a lot more comfortable with drawing cubes than I was before. Thanks a lot for this entire course, I decided to try doodling a bit for fun and I was actually kind of happy with what came out. Even though I've done other kinds of practice alongside this course, I think 90% of my progress came because of this subreddit.
