Hi Uncomfortable,
it's me again (finally) :D First of all thanks again for letting me submit this without waiting for the pledge increase to go through upfront, this is really kind!
So, I've taken about five Months for this lesson as it turns out, vertebrates are a heck of a lot more complicated than insects and arachnids. I went down that rabbit hole called anatomy and narrowly escaped when I realized that individual muscles are way too advanced and detailed for me at that point because this is about the fundamentals. Still it helped me a bit with understanding why the forms I drew looked like they look (especially skeletons are very helpful!).
I have to apologize upfront for two things I did differently than your instructions, first I did not draw legs as 2D shapes because I actually cannot draw 2D shapes, my mind simply blockades and it comes out as wobbly tentacles, so I guess the boxes have already overtaken me :D
Also I developed a more detailed structure for ribcage and pelvis - a squashed cylinder and a very squashed cylinder/almost cone thingy. With this it was way easier for me personally to identify and keep track of orientation.
That said, here it is.
While of course not everything came out as I wanted it to (looking at you Stags 1.. was supposed to be epic not derpy xD), overall I'm very happy with what I learned.
Thanks for your time,
Ozelotl

Ah divinity was a large factor of motivation for finishing this lesson though.
Congrats on pushing through! :)

Perhaps I unconsciously tried to squash the scary spider? :D
Thank you for your critique, that sounds like a good plan!
You will hopefully see more from me soon :)

Hi Uncomfortable,
it's been a while but I managed to finish my insects:
At the start struggled a lot with getting proportion and measurement right (as any mistake is so much more obvious than with plants) and also with more complex 3d forms (how to add forms onto each other or carve one form from another) so I took a lot of time to practice.
The last two pages of layins I did while looking only at the references I had already used so I had to rotate the insects in my mind. I thought this might prepare me a little for the hybrids exercise but it was really hard. I need more boxes and cylinders! :D
I am still very much overwhelmed by detail and texture, I might have a look at the texture challenge while practicing animals if I pass this lesson.
Cheers and thank you once again for your time,
Ozelotl

Thank you for the feedback,
I think I messed up a lot of the boxes already by not thinking about the fact that one side of it should represent a square and then got even sloppier because of that.
I will practice those more and give the video you linked another watch now that I had some practice.
Thanks again, see you hopefully soon on lesson 4 :)

Hi Uncomfortable,
I did some 250 cylinders while practicing insects :D
I had a problem with cylinders coming out squashed at the start but figured it out I hope.
(I started with a small degree on the first ellipses but went with a large amount of foreshortening which contradicts itself as small degree says I'm seeing the cylinder more from its side while large amount of foreshortening tells me it goes into depth)
Other than that I only have to say that superimposing ellipses is hard, especially drawn through ones.
Thank you once again for your time,
Ozelotl
Edit:
With the additional page I was going for something like the advanced boxes but for cylinders, do you think it makes sense as an exercise?

Thank you for the feedback, I will pay special attention to that.
Once again thank you for your time and hopefully I will submit again soon :D

Hi Uncomfortable,
I finished lesson3! (yay)
I did all of the demos, hoping it would be easier for you to critique them. Also instead of doing four plants without and four with detail, I decided to take a photo of each plant both as construction only and then again after adding detail onto this construction, I hope this is okay.
I still have trouble with superimposing, small stems were also really hard and my detail is very.. experimental xD
But overall I am really happy that I was able to draw these so once again thank you very much for these lessons, this is really awesome!

Finally I have finished this challenge - may these boxes hold off the box demon for a while!
This time I tried to do all my superimposing from the shoulder as well, It's either wobbly or inaccurate at the start but I think it gets a little better. Although once in a while I caught myself falling back to using my wrist for line weight :/
I feel like I am tending towards being too dramatic with my foreshortening?
Also the more boxes I had drawn, the harder it got for me to notice and correct my mistakes, I'm guessing this is quite normal though and simply means I am in need of some critique from someone who can notice them (aka you xD).
I also tried my hand at the advanced boxes exercise, one page with and one without a ruler. I know the colored hatching is quite messy, but it helped me a ton with seeing the dividing planes in 3D space so I thought it would be ok.
Honestly though, I don't think I could manage doing the cylinder challenge right now (too many geometric shapes :X), I'd rather start Lesson 2 and practice cylinders during warmup for a while just before I actually need them in the form intersections bit.
Thank you once more,
Ozelotl

Thank you for the detailed feedback!
I went over my rotated boxes and constructed my vanishing points with a colored pen and a ruler and I can see what you mean, for the outer axes boxes the inner vanishing points are way off, they slide in the wrong direction even. I think I'm gonna go over all of my rotated boxes like that from now on, this certainly helps locate why some boxes look off.
I'm going to start on the 250 boxes and will do line weight from the shoulder on them, then I have plenty of practice for two issues at once :)
And yes, I will continue doing all exercises as warup, I even made a list of them on the back of the cardboard I use as a drawing pad.
Thanks again for all the effort!

Hi Uncomfortable,
here's my lesson one submission:
I wanted to say that I've been working on Lesson one for about two months, for my submission however I did not pick exercises from the ones I've been doing but sat down to do them again so that they would represent my current level.
I have a question regarding adding line weights, should this be done with the shoulder as well? I feel I am not consistent enough with my superimposed lines to be able to do this so I used my wrist instead. Should I continue to use my wrist and practice superimposing seperately until comfortable? Should I switch to using the shoulder immediately and risk letting bad superimposed lines "ruin" my exercise?
And generally I think my line weight is too blunt and heavy-handed but I felt the need to use harsh line weight in order to clean up my cluttered heaps of boxes (especially when drawn through), do you have any tips regarding that?
On the whole I feel my boxes could still use a lot of work so I thought I'd do the 250 box challenge next, while practicing curves/ellipses/superimposing as these are (imo) my weakest points.
Is that a good idea?
Thanks for all the help! :)

Thank you for the critique!
Now with your additional explanation and the leg examples you pointed out I can better understand what I'm supposed to be doing but I think that I need some targeted practice in that area.
I mean I've been doing nothing but drawabox exercises for the last 1.5 years, because before that I was simply lost with what to do and how to draw. The lessons helped me tremendously by showing me a clear structured path of what I could do to learn and I am very grateful for that but I think I need to step away from drawabox for a while and catch up on some other areas. Not only for learning purposes but becuase I've been dying to try out some new stuff, maybe start to dabble in value etc..
Once again thanks for the time and effort you put into the critiques and all the great material!
Hopefully I'll see you in a while when I revisit these lessons and continue on to lesson 6 :)
