Thank you! I'll keep working hard with all this in mind!

I wanted to start off by thanking you for the in-depth critique you gave on my previous submission. This lesson has been a challenge - but it really has taught me a lot. I did my best to really focus on, above all else, how the forms of each insect interact. I also tried to pay more attention to detail in regards to hatching, contours, and centerlines. Additionally, I also took the time to really think about what each mark would convey before putting anything down.

I built the legs out of sausages as you suggested - and ended up adding the actual "shape" of the legs on top. Looking back, however, I'm worried this stiffened things up a bit. Just adding a sphere (as demonstrated in your wasp tutorial) probably would have been a better approach.

Despite that oversight on my part, I decided to submit to see whether or not I finally grasped the overall point of the lesson.

Once again, thank you so much for your feedback!

This lesson took a lot longer than I thought going into it - but I really feel I learned a lot! Also had a lot of fun doing it, despite the challenges.

As always, thank you so much for your feedback.

I'll keep all these points in mind when tackling lesson four. Thanks again!

Thank you so much - I truly appreciate the detailed response!

If you don't mind, I did have one quick question regarding your line weight comment. It's a weakness I'm aware of, and something I've been trying to improve upon. Do you have any tips for learning to control the pen better, as well as improving linework? My lines often end up so thick because I'm prone to messing up my lines, and then trying to cover up the mistake by merging it with the line weight. Lately, I've been doing a lot of super imposed lines, ghosted lines, ellipses, and planes with ellipses as part of my daily warmup to combat this weakness. I wasn't sure if you had any extra tips though.

Dawdled on this one a bit - couldn't fight the urge to keep redoing certain plants.

Had a lot of fun with it regardless - thank you so much!

Lesson Three: Submission

Thank you so much for the critique you left on my previous submission - I really appreciated just how much detail you took the time to include.

As your request, I did one more page of organic foms with counter curves. Is this what you had in mind?

Here's my submission for lesson two. The textures and arrows are a bit of a mixed bag in terms of quality - but I decided to submit them as is, as I felt I was able to grasp the core concept by the end of each.

If you feel otherwise though, I'm more than happy to resubmit. Thank you for your time!

The most important thing I learned from this excercise is that rushing will get me absolutely no where. Some of these are pretty rough, so I understand if I end up needing a re-do on this one. Regardless, I felt submitting what I did couldn't hurt.

Thank you!

Thank you! I was a little nervous when it came to the rough perspective boxes, and was so focused on getting it "right" and "done" I forgot to ghost a few of them. I'll defenitely keep that in mind going forward though, and really think about my marks before I make them. Interestingly though - I didn't actually switch my pen at all throughout the lesson. I used an ultra fine point sharpie for all of it - so I may have just been pressing too hard.

I have a lot of stuff to keep in mind going forward. Again, thank you so much for the critique!

Here's my submission for lesson one! It is worth noting this is my second time running through it - I did it a few months back before making a Patreon. I wanted to re-do it though before submitting for critique, because I felt I improved just a bit at these excercises since then.

My biggest problem is defenitely with the rotated boxes. A lot of them are pretty distorted, and there are a few where I tried to cover up mistakes by really overdoing the linework. (Ironically drawing more attention to them in the process.) I was honestly really tempted to re-do that section a third time, but decided it would be best to submit it, mistakes and all.

Thank you so much for putting these lessons together, as well as taking the time to critique work. I really appreciate it!
