Looks like this thread's still alive, so I might as well join in.
I'm currently 20 years old and have never created anything that would pass as a recognizable drawing in any of those years. My dad went to a very good art school, (and then did nothing related to his degree afterwards) so I feel like I must have some of his ability within myself. I took art lessons for a little while when I was a kid, but I had too much ADD and too little patience to stick with it for long enough to make any kind of improvement, so I would still consider myself a rank amateur. I'm currently a physics student in college, so I don't think knowing how to draw will have any impact at all on my career. That said though, it always helps to have as many talents up your sleeve as possible. I found out about this subreddit by typing "learn to draw" into the reddit search bar. I'm really excited that this place exists because I believe very strongly that mastering the fundamentals of any given skill will allow you to improve very quickly.

Ok, thanks. I can't tell you how excited I am to have found this place. I've been wanting to learn to draw since I was a kid, but I couldn't find the right approach. I think this is what I need though.

It took me a long time to get these to where I thought they would be okay to submit. They're not amazing, but they don't make me sick anymore. I noticed that my boxes have a chronic case of "far-side-too-large-itis," and I didn't see your post on how to draw ellipses and circles until today, but I'll give it another go using your suggested method.

I know that I haven't completed lesson 1 yet, but I ended up doing this first because I got to the boxes part and realized I had absolutely no idea how to draw something that looked like a box. I feel a bit better after completing this though, so that's good I guess.
In regards to my thoughts on how this came out, I'm kind of satisfied. I know that I'm pretty garbage at drawing, so naturally a lot of my boxes came out looking pretty dumb. On the other hand, I could feel my lines improving as I drew box after box. I still have a lot of trouble drawing my boxes so that all of the lines an angles match up though. You'll notice that a lot of the time, though they're (usually) pretty straight, my lines aren't really parallel, which makes the boxes look shitty. Do you have any tips for getting the lines to match up a bit better?

Here's #2.
I wasn't really sure how to do the multiple line weights with a single pen, so I had to use a pencil on one of them them so I could tell what was where. I hope that's okay...
