Hello again, here is my lesson 6 homework! I felt pretty good about these overall, although it wasn't without its difficulties. One thing I noticed was that I had a tendency to get sloppier towards the end of the drawing; guess I need to try to be more patient with it. Also ellipses in planes are still hard :\

Here are my additional pages! I added references to the previous album.

Thanks, I knew that was going to be be a bit brutal on those first drawings ha. A few things:
-
I guess I was a little unsure how exactly to do the legs; I just looked back at the videos, in some areas I see you do the overlapping shapes, but in other places (mainly that first tiger) you seem to do more how I was doing it with the simpler shapes. But anyway, I'll be sure to use overlapping sausages on my additional drawings.
-
With that horizontal contour line on the hawk I think I wanted to follow that brow ridge (which curves differently than the cranium), but ended up doing something halfway between that and what a normal contour line would be which clearly wasn't successful. That's one thing I've noticed, sometimes I have this conflict about sticking to the forms I've already put down vs. what I'm seeing in the reference, if that makes any sense.
-
I was trying not to put too much emphasis on fur, but I did notice I get rather impatient with it, like I'll start out being more deliberate with tufts but as I go it gets more random. I'll try to be more cognizant of that in the future.

Well I thought this was a bit rough in places, but here are my animals! References

Ok great, thank you! I'll keep those points in mind moving forward.

Alright here are my additional pages. I added the references to my previous album.
I didn't do any measuring of proportions, and I tried to focus on building up forms, as well as getting even, flowing legs.

Ok thank you, I will get to work on the additional pages. I want to comment on a few things and make sure Im understanding this correctly:
-
Your example of the wasp abdomen is very helpful; I wasnt understanding that method of layering forms. Ill be sure to apply this in my additional pages. I considered tossing the wasp drawing because I knew undermining the forms like that was bad, but good thing I kept it in since it allowed you to explain some things I wasnt getting.
-
Some of the stiffness in my major forms may be the result of me worrying too much about copying the reference exactly. One thing Ive been doing, because I dont trust myself with proportions yet, is measuring with my pen to get the initial masses to be the right size in relation to each other. Should I just be eyeballing these proportions?
-
Not all leg segments keep a consistent width throughout their length, such as the hind leg of the honey bee. Would you then still want an even sausage shape for the initial form, and then build another form on top to more accurately represent its true shape?
-
As for contour lines, I think just I wasnt treating them with enough importance, probably me worrying about cluttering up the drawing. I'll try to be more deliberate with them.

I definitely found this more difficult than plants, but I was getting more comfortable with it by the end. Since I was doing one drawing per page I went ahead and did four pages of lay-ins; I wasn't sure exactly how many you wanted.

I tried a few different ways to draw the cylinders. I still seem to have trouble drawing smooth ellipses in boxes; I'm probably thinking too much about trying to fit them perfectly.

Thank you! I must have missed the point about always starting at an ellipse on the branches, I'll keep practicing those.

Sorry to bombard you with submissions; this is the last one for a little bit.
Dissections were fun! I definitely found the form intersections difficult, and I'll admit I got a bit lazy with them towards the end.

Here are my boxes! https://imgur.com/a/5q0j1
One issue I had was I sometimes caught myself simply going through the motions of drawing a box, i.e. just putting down the 'y' without really envisioning how I wanted to rotate the box beforehand. I also was having some trouble smoothly adding line weight for the first half, but I think I managed to improve that by the end.

Thanks! Yeah I will definitely rewatch that video and do some practice before starting vehicles, as I don't have any ellipse guides to use (I did consider buying some but I don't really think they'd be a worthwhile investment, since they're a bit pricey, and I don't really see myself using them a lot in the future). For the grill, I did actually choose to leave the wheels outside the box at the start, but I agree, looking back it probably wasn't the best choice.
