BeccaRand in the post "Lesson 7: Drawing Vehicles"

THIS IS THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE!!! I mean, my wedding day was cool but this is next level.

You should sell shirts or pins or something! I would buy everything.

Thank you for all of your thorough critiquesI'm very happy with my improvement and look forward to checking out what you come up with next. :)

Okay, here are the rest of the vehicle drawings (added to the same album):

I think the second van and the Model T show a lot of improvement, the Porsche attempts not so much. I couldn't figure that one out after a few tries so I decided to give it a break. I kept getting confused by the cab because it's so far inset from the body.

Though the wheels look better on all of them so that was good!

/u/uncomfortable Can you take a look when you have a chance? Thank you!

I am honored!!! There is truly no higher praise than grandma praise. Working on the cars now. :)

Hi! I'm back! Here are my wheel drawings:

I bought some ellipse templatesyou can see that the drawings where I used the guides vs the freehand ones are night and day.

Minimal success with the tire tread (couldn't figure out how to estimate that without pulling the circle out of perspective and plotting back), but I think they are looking better in general.

Thank you for your feedback! Very helpful, I understand your points. I tool a little mental health break but I'm starting on the wheels now.

Here are my vehicles for critique. There's definitely improvement and increased complexity, but all in all these still look pretty goofy. I do feel like I was able to use a lot of the techniques laid out in the videos, though, so I obviously understand the basics, but wish I could get these to look more refined/less awkward. Thanks for your time!

This was a struggle. First few pages were catastrophic, definitely started to "get it" after page 3. I could have done A LOT more of these but felt it might be better to get some feedback at this point.

I tended to have more success building things inside a box vs combining shapes. The food processor attempts (last 2 pages) are a good example of this. I'm thinking this is because there are lines towards the vanishing points on both the top and bottom so it's easier to guess in between them?

My cylinders in planes (especially when I had multiples close together) were a hot mess. Ultimately I just gave up on this approach after trying it for the juicer 3 times without improvement.

One thing that is still alluding me is drawing a cube (which is sort of hilarious). Using the "Y" method, I can't figure out where to put the third line. So I have the x and the y axis, but I don't understand how to estimate the angle and length of the last inner line (z axis). Like, there is some range of mathematical possibility for the lengths/angles of the lines in a cube that I'm not understanding. Essentially this. Do you think it would be helpful to try to freehand something like that, or is there a better way to get good at estimating? Maybe drawing a block from life?

Obviously these show a huge jump in my understanding from when I started, but I feel like there are some basic concepts that I'm still not really fully grasping.

Thanks for the feedback and for your time putting all this together!

Thank you for the wonderful critique, as always. I'm going to take a stab at the rattlesnake againtotally see what you're saying about the branch approach. And will do a few more animal heads focusing on the eye sockets.

Hi! Here are my animal studies:

As always, I have plenty of self-critique, but looking forward to your thoughts.

Thank you, this is very thorough and helpful. I completely see what you are saying and did a few more studies to help solidify the concepts. I added them at the end of the album (and moved the originals to the bottom for comparison). I think the structures are looking WAY better but the texture needs work. Would it make sense to start the Texture Challenge now?

On a side note, when I first glanced over your critique I thought you were saying you got hammered while writing the critique and I was like, "Wow... this is going to be exciting!"

Hi! Here are my insects. My self-critique is that my shadows (both on the insect and the drop shadow below) are sometimes odd looking. This is something I need to work on.

I put the practice/mess ups at the end. Thanks for your time!

Thank you! I will be more timely about submitting the next lesson, that obviously makes sense.

I will also chill out on the hatching lines. :)

OMG IT'S MAKING MUCH MORE SENSE NOW! I am one step closer to cylindrical enlightenment.

I ended up doing some loosely plotted perspective to see if I could figure it out and it was very helpful. I was able to see how points 1 and 2 in your edits could be applied. It still a little fuzzy but I definitely feel like I've had a breakthrough.

Actually, the last comment makes a lot of sense and was something I had been thinking about. It wasn't making sense to me how an ellipse could magically be the only shape that didn't get distorted with dramatic perspective, so that answers that question!

Thank you for taking the time to write the critique and mark up my drawings.

Still feeling confused by these but thanks for taking the time to critique. I'm hoping for some karate kid "wax on, wax off" effect where the purpose of the training suddenly becomes clear. :)
