What do you do for warm up, and when does it become grinding?

Hi all,

I'm on eclipses right now and I'm wondering if I'm supposed to do the ghost line/plane homework as warm up? I did 3 pages of planes so far, and I'm wondering when it'll be considered practice vs. grinding.

So anyway, what do you guys do for warm up? How much lines/planes/elipses do you more experienced people do aside from the homeworks?

I've never considered warming up to getting into drawing... the drawing is the warming up. Everything you're doing is your practice. Though that's coming from someone who always neglects to warm up before working out and continually strains muscles so... I'm not sure if that's a good analogy but do what gets you most comfortable with a pen in your hand.

This was a question regarding drawabox warmups (this subreddit). Not warmups in general.

If thats the case its just stupid advice since the warmups are a crucial part of the course.

The exercises become part of your warmup routine only once you've had the lesson marked as complete, confirming that you understand how they are to be done. So until you're done Lesson 1, you don't need to worry about warmups, and should only complete the number of pages assigned in the homework.

I do mechanical practice, and avoid technical. By that I mean, actions like lines or ellipses or sausages, basic shapes that require precision movement without much actual thought or focus.

You have a finite amount of focus in a day, would suck to use them for a warm up.

Sometimes it's a good idea to go back to drawing a box with less emphasis on plotting them perfectly but more aligning the strong confident strokes with ghosted lines.

I ghost in all my warm ups.

I'll do enough to fill 10-15 minutes, however long I feel until I start hitting the mark consistently.
