It's a lot like clowns in a bank. One day, you're walking around, and all of a sudden you notice them. Maybe it's the janitor, mopping diligently in the corner. Maybe it's the security guard. Maybe it's the teller - I hope not, because you've just given them your paycheque to deposit.
They look weird and loud. They are scary before they are funny, and they are simply not what most people expect. It can be overwhelming, to suddenly notice the clowns. You clench your eyes tight and will yourself to unsee them, but you can't, because nothing has actually changed. You just never noticed before. The whole time, you were too caught up trying to hide the one clown you'd always known was present: the one in the mirror.
We all have our quirks, our weird interests and hobbies, the things the folks around us won't understand. Our oddities may differ, but it is in having them that we are all the same. We are, all of us, clowns in a bank. Sure, I do some clowning, but you don't have to come.
Pick an everyday scenario from your daily life, and show us the clowns that keep it all going. Capture their individuality - take the things that make them odd, and bring it to the forefront. Or alternatively if you're looking for something a little more bite-sized, you can focus on an individual character, or even yourself.
And of course, you're welcome to treat "clown" as a metaphor. Just try to think about how clowns, by their very nature, put all the weird on the outside.
