hi there! shuelsman. I'm chiran and I'm here for your submission to review. I'll try my best to provide solid, helpful analysis of your work.Wow! you've got some pretty decent work here.alright! lets jump in.

SECTION 1;LINES ( HOW ARE YOUR LINES):

  • there is a little bit to not at all fraying on the starting so what it Indicates is that you really did take time to position the pen correctly at the starting point.wow good job! fraying on the end point is normal as you're getting used to drawing from your shoulder.

  • the lines came out smooth and confident.but there is little bit of wobbly and curvy in your lines.( we can see these lines on both super imposed and ghosted lines exercises) although they are in minority, you should watch out for that next time.

  • sometimes you did seem to hesitate while executing your lines, this may lead to slow execution finally creating lines that are darker and wobbly.

  • I mentioned these points because, you can work on this in your warmups.Apart from this I’m gonna give you a shout out for the ghosting job as you did take time to plan and mark where the lines starts and end. By plotting down the points.I hope you found a comfortable angle of approach while executing your lines.

WHAT ARE THE KEY THINGS TO REMEMBER IN ORDER TO IMPROVE YOUR LINES:

  • First thing first, the speed of execution: (i.e speed of drawing your lines)

when to increase the speed and when to slow down?

If the lines came out dark, wobbly, contains subtle S curve and undershooted then increasing the speed of drawing your lines can reduce these issues. however if the lines are overshooting more and the flow of ink in your pen is inconsistent then its advisable to reduce the speed and try to lift the pen off the page when reaching the end dot.

feel free to experiment with different speed of drawing your lines from point A to point B ( meaning staring and end point) during your warm up session and opt for the smooth and consistent ones. Increasing the speed of execution can really help in reducing wobbly lines. It also helps in reducing the course correction done by the brain of ours.

Arching might happen because not using shoulder as a main driving force or if you are sure that you're using the shoulder then it can be improved by arching consciously in opposite direction.

so to conclude,Always plan your lines with the help of ghosting method ( i.e take time to plot the starting and end dot of a line and ghost several times above the points and execute with confidence from your shoulder)

Section 2 ELLIPSES: HOW ARE YOUR ELLIPSES?

  • your ellipses are smooth and sometimes lacks confidence creating a wobbly and uneven ellipses.

  • sometimes they are drawn through 1-1.5 times instead of 2-3 times. ( we can see on page 1 9th row ellipse)

  • I can say that you did strive to keep ellipses within the bounds, but sometimes they are inside of it but thats okay no problem.

  • Sometimes your ellipses contain pointy ends ( meaning sharp curve at the major axis) but you should watch out for that in next time.

  • Good job on striving to keep your ellipses within the funnels and aligning to the minor axis.but It would have been better if you had increased their degrees from the centre to outside of funnel what i meant to say is drawing narrower degree ellipses at the center and slowly increase their degrees ( degree means ellipses width) as they move toward the end of the funnel on both sides

WHY YOUR ELLIPSES ARE WOBBLY AND UNEVEN?

mainly due to thinking about accuracy rather than confidence.It is also a result of not using shoulder and ghosting method.

WHAT ARE THE KEY THINGS TO REMEMBER IN ORDER TO IMPROVE YOUR ELLIPSES:

  • well the confidence should always be prioritized first, later you can work on accuracy. at the beginning its always hard to get it right, but keep reminding yourself that confidence should always be greater than the accuracy.

  • you should definitely continue to use ghosting method, drawing from your shoulder and make sure that you are always use your arm to get the best flow as possible. while ghosting ( hovering in a motion over the page not touching the page) make sure to plan where the ellipses will sit, that means where will the top and bottom edge will go and start and end an ellipse at the minor axis ( the narrow width ). you are free to rotate the page to find the comfortable angle of approach.

  • little advice on funnel exercise is that, next time when doing these exercise as warm up make a conscious effort to try and align ellipses to the minor ellipse. try to increase the ellipse degrees ( that means working from the narrower width ellipses to large width ellipses at the end of ellipses ) starting from the center to the end.

  • To avoid sharp curve at the major axis ( like a egg shape) Its advisable to rotate your page to find the comfortable angle of approach and start and end ellipses at the minor axis( the axis which divides the ellipses into symmetrical halves)

  • and finally speed up your ellipse making, if you think you are going too slow.lastly this is not the end, continue to incorporate these exercises in regular warm ups ( only for 10-15 min) and know what you should be aiming for and work towards it. I am confident that you will also get better with deliberate practice.

SECTION 3: BOXES ( HOW ARE YOUR BOXES?):

  • your boxes are off to a good start. the boxes are drawn through and are planned and ghosted before execution so thats perfect!

  • plotted perspective exercise looks great.

WHAT YOU NEED TO WORK ON:

  • coming to rough point perspective: I need to mention here is that, while doing one point perspective box warm ups keep the faces of the box parallel to the page what I meant to say is that in one point perspective all the horizontal lines of the box are parallel to the horizon and all the vertical lines are perpendicular to horizon and the thickness or depth lines of the box will converge to a vanishing point.t his point should be kept in mind during warm ups.

  • you have mentioned in your work that,you felt like you drawn the boxes that are moving forward to VP. This may happen because not ghosting( or plotting your end points) approximate to the line of Vanishing point. In order to help you with this- you can use the ghosting method. Starting out by putting little points where you want your line to start and end will help, and ghosting all the way towards the vanishing point can also help you maintain your alignment with it (but of course you can't actually draw the line all the way back).

Rotated boxes exercise: one thing to mention here is that: while doing rotated boxes try your best to keep the gaps between the boxes as narrow and consistent as possible why because you can use the neighbouring edges as hints and can try to keep that box edges parallel and same length to the boxes besides and below it.( this advantage can only be taken when you keep the gaps between the boxes narrow and consistent). little tip: you can also hatch the gaps between the boxes with the lines.

perspective is slightly off in organic perspective exercise. I'm not fussing over it. I'm pretty confident that these will improve largely after completing the 250 box challenge. feel free to revisit these exercises after completing the 250 boxes.for the box construction in organic perspective exercise is that after you plotted out the Initial Y of a box think about how you want each set to converge and try and think about (in rough terms) where the vanishing point is going to be for each set.I's is just a reminder tho.here you can take a look at this image:https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/365180330103013388/716494148093607946/unknown.png

In this part I'm not fussing over it and I'm not even expecting perfectionism but I'm just pointing out where it went slightly off so that you can next incorporate these points to improve your work.

Now coming to the important point of this feedback:

HOW TO TACKLE THE REVISION?

First thing first, always make a conscious effort to prioritize confidence over accuracy.

Hey Chiran! Thank you for the critique! I appreciate you starting off each one with something positive, and thank you for the constructive feedback! I reviewed the videos and the lessons you linked. I tried my best to keep things parallel and perpendicular in the rough perspective (there were definitely some places better than others) and I tried to be as confident as I could in the ellipses. no no you didn't forget anything, You did a awesome job by keeping horizontal lines of boxes parallel to the horizon and the vertical lines perpendicular to it. I'm sure that you prioritized confidence over anything else and executed to the best.
