Yo koyomi fantastic job!. you have shown a lot of improvements at the end of the challenge.Your work reveals that you did take time to read through the lesson materials, followed the instructions and executed to your best of your ability. so that's nice!. alrighty lets roll the intro;

hey, I'm chiran. today I'll go over your submission and try my best to provide helpful analysis of your work by breaking down into three parts.

before we get started, these are the name given specifically because of their order and to represent the specific section of the boxes

Newbies - ( 1-100 boxes) 2. Intermediates - (101-200 boxes) and 3. pros - ( 201- 250 boxes).

lets breakdown the challenge into three parts and analyze one by one.

PART 1: THE PRAISES ( The job you did well in the challenge):

  • your mistakes are slowly reducing in the challenge because of the line extention method (that is checking your mistakes by extending the correction lines away from the viewer) so thats great!.

  • while line weight and hatching are optional in this challenge, I'm glad to see that you are beginning to build the sense of form ( in this case box) using these tools.I can say that you prioritized confidence over perfection even while drawing those lines.so good job!

  • I'm glad that you did take time to construct various types of boxes with different orientation, proportion and foreshortening throughout this challenge without any similar orientation or same type of boxes and You got some pretty decent amount of convergence on the intermediates and pros so good job on these too!.

  • I can say that you are building a sense of confidence and patience in drawing your boxes by plotting down the starting and end points of the lines first before executing them or before committing them, so thats nice.

PART 2: WHERE IT WENT SLIGHTLY OFF? ( Where you should keep an eye on) ( No worries part!)

I think you are headed in the right direction and you have understood the concept of perspective very well so the box challenge has done its job.but there are some hiccups in your work that needs to be identified and removed.

so these are some points you can try and remind yourself during warm ups in order to improve these exercises in the future. In this part I will just point out where it went off. In the coming part I will explain how to avoid them and how you can improve them.I made this part because It will make our brain to remind us where we are going wrong and it will thereby make us conscious about our mistakes while drawing.

  • In a minor areas sometimes you did seem to prioritize accuracy over confidence therefore some lines ( even hatching and line weight lines) came out hesitant and wobbly. these are significantly improved in the pro boxes so no need to worry, but just make a conscious reminder about prioritizing confidence and drawing from shoulder as always even while doing warm ups.

  • of course you had improved throughout the challenge but there are times where some of the set of lines converges at a faster rates than the others resulting in converging in pairs. yep this issue you can definitely work on, in your warm ups. by trying to know the relationships between each lines related to its distance.

  • It's completely and totally normal to have the back corner line slightly off compared to the rest.they have significantly improved at end of your work so nice job!.

  • It would have been better and helpful to us,if you had constructed some bigger boxes and some extreme foreshortening boxes in the challenge. the shallow boxes are very important for the upcoming exercises and even extreme dramatic foreshortening boxes are also important too ,when we want to convey fish eye perspective in our scene. so i would encourage you to practice both the types as well.

PART 3: THE JOB WE CAN DO TO IMPROVE OUR BOXES IN OUR WARM UPS:

You're making good progress towards understanding the concepts introduced in this challenge, below I'll be listing some things that will hopefully help you in your future attempts at these boxes.

Notes: you can try and think the relationships between each lines in the this manner in your warm ups to reduce the issues of diverging and converging in pairs issues.

In this challenge, we are estimating where our lines going to converge to a point. as we are humans, it is almost impossible to perfectly estimate where our lines will going to converge thereby resulting in an error. this error will continue to accumulate as we construct the box freely rotated in space. finally this accumulated error will be thrown to the back corner. So its pretty normal to have the inner back corner come out pretty off.

I want to take a look at this info here;https://i.imgur.com/8PqQLE0.png

In this image we can know that how each line will behave relating to the position from its neighbouring edges and the VP.So we can arrive at the conclusion that, If the distance between the internal edges and external edges gets reduce more and more they will eventually become parallel to one and another. Alternatively If the distance between the internal corner and the external grow more and more the internal line will also converge.you can also try and start from the back corner if the box is narrower.https://imgur.com/a/DHlA3Jh

If your aware of these notes, then you need to build mileage by including 1-2 boxes in your daily warm up routine. after that your boxes will get better and better and will eventually make you happy at the end. :D

MY POINT OF VIEW:

we all know, this challenge was very intimidating because of constructing 250 boxes arbitrarily rotated in 3d and yet you did a great job by keeping persistent till the end with lots of effort, focus, energy and time so hats off for that.

" A BOX A DAY KEEPS OUR ISSUES AWAY"

Yes, We've come to the end of this feedback. overall, this was a solid submission. you have put a lots of effort, focus, energy and time into this challenge so your work came out beautiful!. so hats off for that .

thank you for submitting your assignment to the community I will mark this challenge as complete.

Yay ! we have completed this challenge. congratulations!. I hope this feedback helps . Have a wonderful artistic journey.

Thank you koyomi.

Next Steps:

The next steps:

  1. move onto lesson 2.

  2. provide some time for your warm ups at the beginning of your drawing session. include lesson 1 exercises also in your warm ups. don't forget about them.

thank you!.

Your lines are pretty clean throughout the whole challenge so props to that, but I think your main problem is heavy distortion/ foreshortening on some of the boxes. Try and be more careful and makes sure you want your parallel lines to converge off the page.

Sakura Pigma Microns

A lot of my students use these. The last time I used them was when I was in high school, and at the time I felt that they dried out pretty quickly, though I may have simply been mishandling them. As with all pens, make sure you're capping them when they're not in use, and try not to apply too much pressure. You really only need to be touching the page, not mashing your pen into it.

In terms of line weight, the sizes are pretty weird. 08 corresponds to 0.5mm, which is what I recommend for the drawabox lessons, whereas 05 corresponds to 0.45mm, which is pretty close and can also be used.
