Question Regarding Patreon Tiers

1:48 AM, Tuesday March 15th 2022

Hey Guys,

I have a couple questions about official paid critiques.

  1. The $7 / month tier says "PLUS 1 bonus credit if you are pledging as a new patron at this tier." For $7 you receive 1 credit per month, does the bonus point get awarded every month? Or is it just for the first month?

  2. I am interested in signing up for official critique, but I have already completed Lesson 1 and the 250 Box Challenge. Will I need to redo these?

Thank you to whoever sees this, I appreciate cha

To your first question, the bonus credit associated with a tier is awarded only when you first sign up. It's meant to entice students to sign up at a higher tier and hopefully maintain at that tier (though that is not required).

So, you only receive the bonus credit once, when you first sign up - not each month thereafter, and not if you upgrade to a tier with a bonus credit later on.

This is all part of the business model we use to keep the price of critiques low, as explained here in Lesson 0: https://drawabox.com/lesson/0/1/whyfree

As to your other question, Lesson 1 can be submitted as is. We also do not require students to redo the box challenge in full, but rather have them do an additional 50 after your Lesson 1 work has been marked as complete, so when you do submit it, it's not out of date and had had the opportunity to implement any feedback that was provided for Lesson 1.

Thank you! Wasn't expecting the CEO himself to answer haha, I appreciate your quick and thoughtful response.

(Thx for Drawabox also, I've been humbled and learned so incredibly much and I'm just getting started)

To Patreon I go then!

Ellipse Master Template

Ellipse Master Template

This recommendation is really just for those of you who've reached lesson 6 and onwards.

I haven't found the actual brand you buy to matter much, so you may want to shop around. This one is a "master" template, which will give you a broad range of ellipse degrees and sizes (this one ranges between 0.25 inches and 1.5 inches), and is a good place to start. You may end up finding that this range limits the kinds of ellipses you draw, forcing you to work within those bounds, but it may still be worth it as full sets of ellipse guides can run you quite a bit more, simply due to the sizes and degrees that need to be covered.

No matter which brand of ellipse guide you decide to pick up, make sure they have little markings for the minor axes.
