Heyah!

First time sharing my stuff here. I'm not much for words on this topic, as I don't know what to say right now, so I'll just put up the links so you may critique it.

Superimposed lines: https://puu.sh/GOtPm/6aa25da50a.jpg

I didn't do this exercise for the first time, yet I (still) noticed that my shoulder feels funny whenever I drew with it, as if I'd unintentionally tighten it, leaving a sore feeling behind - the letter I was warned of, but I couldn't wrap around my head around the first occasion. But what I do know is that these lines were hard to do.

To be honest, I felt pretty confident doing this one. As I said, I'm not doing these for the first time. But I'm surprised that these lines - at least to me - still look finde despite my break. But I made the (re-)discovery that I suck at drawing lines that don't travel from bottom left to top right. I know it's the most comfortable way for right-handers, but doing these I sometimes had to ask myself if I really drew from my shoulder and not my elbow by merely twisting my upper arm. I had to consciously move my shoulder to get back on track again.

I also liked doing this task and was feeling quite confident. Although I already see that some lines came too short, which is not what's supposed to be accomplished here. I had to also consciously draw longer lines in order to at least reach the destination. Got me thinking, don't I have to vary the lines' lengths in the exercises? Because thus far, i've only done planes of similar size, thus only the same distance between to points.

Also, that's when my shoulder was getting pretty tired and that's when these shortcomings started, ending up in curved, too short, or even too long lines. I've already forgotten that it's like that...

The Art of Brom

The Art of Brom

Here we're getting into the subjective - Gerald Brom is one of my favourite artists (and a pretty fantastic novelist!). That said, if I recommended art books just for the beautiful images contained therein, my list of recommendations would be miles long.

The reason this book is close to my heart is because of its introduction, where Brom goes explains in detail just how he went from being an army brat to one of the most highly respected dark fantasy artists in the world today. I believe that one's work is flavoured by their life's experiences, and discovering the roots from which other artists hail can help give one perspective on their own beginnings, and perhaps their eventual destination as well.
