Hi there! It's okay for you to submit the box challenge, but we ask people who submit old work to do at least 50 more boxes than the old ones, so make sure you include them when you do the next submission.

That said, overall you've done a pretty good work, but there are a few things I want to comment on before moving on, let's go!:

Starting with your lines, they are confident at the start, but they are a bit wobbly overall. Your first priority with lines is to make them confident and straight, so focus on that first and don't worry if you need to sacrifice accuracy to achieve it. Here's one example that makes it a bit clearer.

Moving onto your ellipses, they are a bit wobbly as well. Remember that in ellipses as well as lines you should try to do them as confident as you can, don't hesitate in sacrificing accuracy to get them smoother and more confident. They get better by the end of the funnels but they still end up being a bit wobbly. You might need to speed up a bit to make them more confident, and that will result on the ellipses being less accurate, but that's not a problem because as I said earlier accuracy is secondary.

On the ghosted planes I can see that you're trying to deform the ellipses to fit the planes. Make sure you always try to draw them smoothly and confidently.

Lastly on the funnels sometimes you aren't alligning the ellipses to the minor axis. The minor axis has to cut the ellipses in 2 identical halves, so make sure you always aim for it even if you need to ignore the initial curves.

Finally in your boxes you've done a good job, but a few important things:

-Overall your lines are a bit wobbly. Same thing I said earlier, you should always prioritize line confidence even if that means that you will sacrifice accuracy, even if the lines are part of a box.

-Sometimes you repeat lines, but no matter how off a line is, don't repeat it, keep going as if it was correct as drawing them will make the drawing messier and encourage bad habits.

-On rotated boxes you've done a great attempt. Boxes are rotating and you kept the corners between boxes close! Only thing is that you haven't drawn through the boxes on the outer corners, make sure you do it on future attempts.

-On organic boxes you've done a pretty good attempt as well. Main thing here is that you havne't drawn starting and ending dots for every line. Make sure you do it even if the lines go outside the frame. Perspective on the boxes have issues too, but that's not a problem as you'll work on it on the box challenge.

Overall like I said you're doing a good job, but I want to make sure you know how to draw confident lines and ellipses before moving on, so I want you to do 1 more page of ghosted planes with ellipses and 1 frame of rough perspective. Good luck and keep up the good work!

Next Steps:

-1 page of ghosted planes with ellipses

-1 frame of rough perspective

Hey this is all really good advice and thanks for taking to time to go in this much depth. I've redone the exercises and I feel pretty comfortable with my lines and ellipses in the ghosted planes exercise. However, I really felt like focusing on confident lines instead of accuracy made my rough perspective exercise fall apart and its making it alot harder to do the extra 50 boxes. I think it has to do with making smaller lines more confident. Also all this drawing from my shoulder is making it sore, any advice?

Thank you so much. Also sorry for the bad photos, my phone camera got busted i will use a better one for the box challenge

Also you don't want me to draw over lines, but on the boxes in the box challenge the perimetre of the boxes are suppose to be darker. should i not draw over them then?

Yeah that's a normal thing. When you start using your shoulder it'll start getting sore at first, so try to take breaks if it's too much. It gets way better with time, nowadays I can just draw for hours with my shoulder and I get 0 soreness.

About the rough perspective, I don't think it has made it fall apart at all! That being said, these exercises purpose is to make you improve, so if the boxes look pretty or not that doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is if when you draw a line you achieve a confident line. If the line is wobbly, then that's something you need to correct by drawing more confidently, but if it's confident then that's great, because it means your accuracy will improve by repeating these exercises on your warmups along making the main lessons, which is our main objective.

That being said, I can still see a little bit of wobble on some of your lines, so just as a reminder remember that lines like the one on bottom are level 0 lines, which means that they're worse than any kind of confident line as explained here.

And finally I think that you're still trying to make the ellipses fit the planes by changing their shape. Shapes of ellipses are symmetrical, so you can't change that no matter what. Make sure you always focus on confidence on ellipses as well. Something that might confuse you is that the centre of the planes doesn't have to be the centre of the ellipses. Here's one example that hopefully makes it a bit more clear.

That said to make sure you understand it, I want you to make one more frame of rough perspective and another plane of ghosted ellipses with planes, good luck and keep it up!

Next Steps:

-1 frame of rough perspective

-1 page of ghosted ellipses on planes

Thank you! I felt i did a lot better with both ellipse and line confidence, though there is still a couple wonky ones.

Also Glad to know thats shoulder pain is going to go away

This is another one of those things that aren't sold through Amazon, so I don't get a commission on it - but it's just too good to leave out. PureRef is a fantastic piece of software that is both Windows and Mac compatible. It's used for collecting reference and compiling them into a moodboard. You can move them around freely, have them automatically arranged, zoom in/out and even scale/flip/rotate images as you please. If needed, you can also add little text notes.

When starting on a project, I'll often open it up and start dragging reference images off the internet onto the board. When I'm done, I'll save out a '.pur' file, which embeds all the images. They can get pretty big, but are way more convenient than hauling around folders full of separate images.

Did I mention you can get it for free? The developer allows you to pay whatever amount you want for it. They recommend $5, but they'll allow you to take it for nothing. Really though, with software this versatile and polished, you really should throw them a few bucks if you pick it up. It's more than worth it.
