You did lots of the steps right :), but there are some remarks:

There are wabbly lines, especially with boxes in rough perspective, so draw FASTER and ghost more.

The planes should have been drawn closer to each other.

In rough perspective, you only made it once, but a box wasn't parallel to the horizon.

In organic boxes, try applying more weight for the boxes who are in top of the others.

Your ellipses are fairly well, but the second or third time drawing through the ellipses aren't complete: the lines aren't closed together but there is a wire-like line that hangs from the ellipses.

Next Steps:

I suggest re drawing the ghosted planes once more.

Of course, perfection isn't the aim, so you can just do 2 more pages of planes where you first (1) focus on line quality. (2) draw the planes next to one another this time. (3) then put the ellipses inside while trying keeping the lines closed.

After you have warmed up your hand with planes, go for a page of super imposed ghosted LONG lines. Your short lines are good, but the long ones are slightly off.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

I feel like my lines were pretty straight but I often overshot my target a bit. I was kind of falling in and out of the straight line mindset for one of the pages, but I can recognize when its happening now, which is awesome.

A few wire-like hangers on the ellipses, but I noticed what I was doing that was causing them.

Thanks again!

Cool, you did better this time. For those lines who are still off, your hands will improve over time. Even when you move to the future lessons or do any other studies for dawing (or having fun), make drawing lines and some ellipses in planes a routine ... like just 5 of each one a day. This is not even a page, so that you don't burn out. Consistency even if when it is small makes progress :)

The Art of Brom

The Art of Brom

Here we're getting into the subjective - Gerald Brom is one of my favourite artists (and a pretty fantastic novelist!). That said, if I recommended art books just for the beautiful images contained therein, my list of recommendations would be miles long.

The reason this book is close to my heart is because of its introduction, where Brom goes explains in detail just how he went from being an army brat to one of the most highly respected dark fantasy artists in the world today. I believe that one's work is flavoured by their life's experiences, and discovering the roots from which other artists hail can help give one perspective on their own beginnings, and perhaps their eventual destination as well.
