While that definitely looks to be an improvement, you seem to be missing the page of leaves that I had assigned with your revisions.

Blast, I knew I forgot to take a picture of something. My apologies. https://imgur.com/a/PEtpXtF

Your revisions are a bit of a mixed bag. There are definitely areas where you're showing more purposeful, planned marks, and an overall greater degree of control (like this page and this one) - not perfect but still a big step in the right direction.

Conversely, looking at this page and this one you are still showing a general looseness to your approach. I am most concerned with the fact that your leaves don't really look all that different from before, with lots of open gaps between lines resulting in forms that are not fully enclosed (which in turn undermines the illusion that they're three dimensional), and notable gaps between phases of construction loosening the relationship between them.

Take a look at this - I've pointed out a number of instances of looseness that, moving forward, you really should be taking much more care to minimize. Mistakes will happen, but the prevalence of them here suggests that while you are putting a lot of effort into executing your marks with confidence (which is good), you are not likely applying the ghosting method to your strokes to correctly reinforce them with planning and preparation.

Please submit another page of leaves - avoid any additional texture/detail and focus entirely on complex edge detail and complex leaf structures - as well as two more pages of plant constructions. Apply the ghosting method to every single mark you draw.

Next Steps:

Please submit 1 page of leaves and 2 pages of plant constructions as mentioned at the end of my critique.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

With this one I spent a couple pages practicing leaves before committing to the one I would submit. I see what you mean now with leaving ends open. As for the other constructural plant drawings, I tried to keep them restricted to their form while still using additive and subtractive contour lines to indicate texture, so I hope that worked. And of course, I ghosted every line.

If I need to submit more revisions I would be happy to use another token for critique so it will be worth your time, I don't want to feel that you need to pass me on this lesson without displayed understanding of the concepts presented.

Thank you.

Ellipse Master Template

Ellipse Master Template

This recommendation is really just for those of you who've reached lesson 6 and onwards.

I haven't found the actual brand you buy to matter much, so you may want to shop around. This one is a "master" template, which will give you a broad range of ellipse degrees and sizes (this one ranges between 0.25 inches and 1.5 inches), and is a good place to start. You may end up finding that this range limits the kinds of ellipses you draw, forcing you to work within those bounds, but it may still be worth it as full sets of ellipse guides can run you quite a bit more, simply due to the sizes and degrees that need to be covered.

No matter which brand of ellipse guide you decide to pick up, make sure they have little markings for the minor axes.
