Sorry for the changing colors on some of the pages: My black fineliner started having issues and over half of it chipped off, before going in the discord and hearing advice to place multiple pages of paper underneath the one I was drawing on. That fixed it. However, there are still 2 purple ellipses that are really hard to see. Also, apologies for using the backside of the first page for the 2nd page of superimposing, I didn't realize you weren't supposed to do that.

Congratulations on completing lesson 1! This looks like a solid submission, and I just have a few notes on your organic perspective submission.

ORGANIC PERSPECTIVE

Most of your boxes look good, however some of your boxes appear deformed because of how your Y is drawn. Keep in mind that when drawing a box using the Y method you should maintain at least a 90 degree angle between arms to prevent your box from looking off. You also required to submit 2 pages of organic perspective to complete lesson 1 and it looks like you have only included 1 in your submission.

Overall this was a really solid submission. It looks like you have a good grasp on the concepts the lessons are trying to convey. Keep up the good work!

Next Steps:

Attach a second page of organic persepctive.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Hi! Just adding an agree on this, to help with earning that badge when you complete revisions :)

Also would like to quickly add some comments of my own:

The main thing I see is that for your markmaking, in both your lines and ellipses, you did correctly in prioritizing confidence over accuracy. Keep focusing on that, and your accuracy will improve down that line! For your boxes, you followed instructions and did everything correctly, even getting all the boxes in for the rotated boxes exercise.

Can't wait for you to complete that last page of organic perspective so you can move on to the box challenge!

The recommendation below is an advertisement. Most of the links here are part of Amazon's affiliate program (unless otherwise stated), which helps support this website. It's also more than that - it's a hand-picked recommendation of something we've used ourselves, or know to be of impeccable quality. If you're interested, here is a full list.
Printer Paper

Printer Paper

Where the rest of my recommendations tend to be for specific products, this one is a little more general. It's about printer paper.

As discussed in Lesson 0, printer paper (A4 or 8.5"x11") is what we recommend. It's well suited to the kind of tools we're using, and the nature of the work we're doing (in terms of size). But a lot of students still feel driven to sketchbooks, either by a desire to feel more like an artist, or to be able to compile their work as they go through the course.

Neither is a good enough reason to use something that is going to more expensive, more complex in terms of finding the right kind for the tools we're using, more stress-inducing (in terms of not wanting to "ruin" a sketchbook - we make a lot of mistakes throughout the work in this course), and more likely to keep you from developing the habits we try to instill in our students (like rotating the page to find a comfortable angle of approach).

Whether you grab the ream of printer paper linked here, a different brand, or pick one up from a store near you - do yourself a favour and don't make things even more difficult for you. And if you want to compile your work, you can always keep it in a folder, and even have it bound into a book when you're done.
