Small thing to note, because unfortunately there was a misunderstanding. In the beginning, I didn't realize you were supposed to draw the hatches over one of the closer faces to demonstrate perspective. Later on I rewatched the lesson and noticed you were supposed to (also when I checked other people's homework).

Hi Devolasrevenge,

I've checked your submission,

Okay, you numbered your boxes in a pretty confusing way, I though you just posted the first 5 boxes multiple times, then I realized that you would number the boxes per page always starting by 0, which again, was pretty confusing. It's not that big of a deal, but always try to make it easier for those who are gonna review your work!

Now, on to the actual critique!

First of all, I see that you've been stretching your parallels in the wrong directions a lot, remember that you are supposed to follow them in th direction opposite to the viewer.

Also, I did notice that you haven't really applied line weight in a constant manner. It seems that you used it sometime to correct some lines. Line weight it's not an aesthetic choice in this course, it's a tool of communication, in this case, to mark the dimensions of the box, so take that into account.

Overall, I can see how you got better through the lesson, your boxes get more confident and better over time.

I'm gonna mark this lesson as completed! Keep it up.

Next Steps:

Move on to lesson 2!

This community member feels the lesson should be marked as complete, and 2 others agree. The student has earned their completion badge for this lesson and should feel confident in moving onto the next lesson.

Hello!

I don't agree that this homework should be considered finished yet. Devolasrevenge, I ask from you 10 extra boxes where you show us that you understood:

-what the boxes front face is,

Notice the three sides that are further from the viewer and where the extra lines are going, towards 3 different vanishing points?

Here's just a link for a another example from the internet: https://thevirtualinstructor.com/images/3-point-perspective-step-7.gif

If that clicks with you, then you really undestand how the boxes will be distorted in 3 D space. You often draw extension lines the wrong way like said in here:

Go over the lesson again, watch the video that Uncomfortable made. I feel you missing critical information from this challenge otherwise.

Next Steps:

Re-study the lesson and show us you understand the challenge fully by adding 10 extra boxes to your homework with extension lines going forward the 3 vanishing points away from the viewer.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Let's be real here for a second: fineliners can get pricey. It varies from brand to brand, store to store, and country to country, but good fineliners like the Staedtler Pigment Liner (my personal brand favourite) can cost an arm and a leg. I remember finding them being sold individually at a Michael's for $4-$5 each. That's highway robbery right there.

Now, we're not a big company ourselves or anything, but we have been in a position to periodically import large batches of pens that we've sourced ourselves - using the wholesale route to keep costs down, and then to split the savings between getting pens to you for cheaper, and setting some aside to one day produce our own.

These pens are each hand-tested (on a little card we include in the package) to avoid sending out any duds (another problem with pens sold in stores). We also checked out a handful of different options before settling on this supplier - mainly looking for pens that were as close to the Staedtler Pigment Liner. If I'm being honest, I think these might even perform a little better, at least for our use case in this course.

We've also tested their longevity. We've found that if we're reasonably gentle with them, we can get through all of Lesson 1, and halfway through the box challenge. We actually had ScyllaStew test them while recording realtime videos of her working through the lesson work, which you can check out here, along with a variety of reviews of other brands.

Now, I will say this - we're only really in a position to make this an attractive offer for those in the continental United States (where we can offer shipping for free). We do ship internationally, but between the shipping prices and shipping times, it's probably not the best offer you can find - though this may depend. We also straight up can't ship to the UK, thanks to some fairly new restrictions they've put into place relating to their Brexit transition. I know that's a bummer - I'm Canadian myself - but hopefully one day we can expand things more meaningfully to the rest of the world.
