When do you know?

When do you decide to move on from a lesson? Sorry in advance. I'm pretty new to this, I'm on lesson 1.

Hi and welcome!

You can find the answer here in the faq: https://drawabox.com/faq/moveon

If you haven't already, I strongly suggest you read Lesson 0 carefully, because it contains crucial piece of information on how to go through the course.

Thank you so much, that was very helpful. I will make sure i use the feedback system when I'm working through the lessons :)

Ideally you would want to receive feedback on each lesson, getting a "green light" to move onto the next one. The reason for this is that each lesson builds additively in difficulty, such that you'll have a very difficult (ajnd frankly unproductive) time attempting to do a lesson without some grounding with the pre-requisite skills in the last. Of course, critique isn't guaranteed from the community, and we'd rather not be waiting months and months to move on..

There is, however, a way to guarantee feedback on each and every lesson you complete! :OOO

if you have not already, join the DAB Discord https://discord.gg/cGjY8Pk

In there you'll find a scheme set up by the wonderful Elodin called Critique exchange. Complete 5 critiques on the site for other's work, and someone from the community will critique your work.

Highly recommended if you're looking for a more guided tutoring experience without paying for the official critique pathway through patreon.

The difficulty during lessons definitely builds up, as i have experienced within even each particular lesson. That is something to keep in mind i guess. I have joined the discord community and i'm looking forward to the community feedback feature :)

On a side note, I looked into the critique exchange setup. I am not sure whether after completing lesson one if i have to critique in exchange or if I'm not eligible to critique someone else's work if my submission hasn't been marked as complete since i presume the exchange happens at the same time. But the rest seems all good. Thanks a lot though. That was really helpful.

Lesson 1 is "on the house", if you will. If you don't receive a critique within a week someone will review your homework for you. After lesson one you'll have to complete 5 critique's yourself to request a critique for one of your lessons.

I've marked your lesson 1 as complete, so you should be fine to critique the work of other students. Check Elodin's guide under the pinned messages if you're unsure and would like further guidance on how to critique lesson 1 homeworks

How to Draw by Scott Robertson

When it comes to technical drawing, there's no one better than Scott Robertson. I regularly use this book as a reference when eyeballing my perspective just won't cut it anymore. Need to figure out exactly how to rotate an object in 3D space? How to project a shape in perspective? Look no further.
