Lesson 1: Lines, Ellipses and Boxes
11:42 PM, Tuesday May 26th 2020
Pls help me huhuhuhu
poor line quality
try to use you shoulder and elbow while drawing
lock your wrist try to not move it while making mark on paper ....
put your drawing platform at 45? angle
dont draw on flat position..
it's restric you hand flow...
any way nice work
you really work hard keep it up...
Next Steps:
you can move to the next 250 box challenge
but before drawing warm up atleast 15 to 16 minutes...
practice straight line
read extra notes ...of lesson 1
and try see yourself why your line quality bad is it for hand position or table position or some thing else
Superimposed Lines
Line weight on longer lines seems lighter, meaning you might be trying to draw longer lines faster. This might explain why they are arcing. Try slowing down.
A lot of wobble on page two. Concentrate.
Ghosted Lines
Pretty good accuracy on start/end points, but a lot of arcs and S shapes in between. Really focus on the ghosting before laying down a mark.
Ghosted Planes
Inconsistent line weights, arcs, S shapes. I think you need to slow down a bit and focus. Page 2 was better.
Tables of Ellipses
Definitely understood the lesson, hitting the edges well. Still some sloppy ones, but I can already see improvement in your accuracy. Page 2 had some issues, especially with larger circles. Really get a feel for 5-10 ghosts before touching the page and making that nice smooth eclipse.
Ellipses in Planes
Wobbly, but you seem to be hitting the edges well. You’ve understood the instructions, just need more practice. Page 2 much better.
Funnels
Same problems as in the tables. Not enough ghosting causing very wobbly ellipses.
Plotted Perspective
All look good to me. One minor mistake on a vertical.
Rough Perspective
Pg 1 very sloppy. Vertical lines all leaning.
Pg 2 better but still needs work on verticals. So many S shapes. Try working from your shoulder more. Very last panel was good. Your estimation of the VP was really good!
Rotated Boxes
Really good job on a tough exercise. Try using nearby lines as a reference more. Don’t forget to hatch the sides of the boxes.
Organic Perspective
Lines are getting straighter but now you’re missing endpoints. Keep concentrating on accurate ghosting. Consider adding weight to the silhouettes of the boxes, more on the big near ones.
Next Steps:
Practice ghosting VERY straight lines 10-15 at the beggining of every drawing session.
Move on to 250 box challenge.
This is another one of those things that aren't sold through Amazon, so I don't get a commission on it - but it's just too good to leave out. PureRef is a fantastic piece of software that is both Windows and Mac compatible. It's used for collecting reference and compiling them into a moodboard. You can move them around freely, have them automatically arranged, zoom in/out and even scale/flip/rotate images as you please. If needed, you can also add little text notes.
When starting on a project, I'll often open it up and start dragging reference images off the internet onto the board. When I'm done, I'll save out a '.pur' file, which embeds all the images. They can get pretty big, but are way more convenient than hauling around folders full of separate images.
Did I mention you can get it for free? The developer allows you to pay whatever amount you want for it. They recommend $5, but they'll allow you to take it for nothing. Really though, with software this versatile and polished, you really should throw them a few bucks if you pick it up. It's more than worth it.
