Hey one two three four five six, congrats on finishing lesson 1. I'm kL, I will help you with your submission. I will divide this into three sections of lesson 1.

1. Lines

  • A well executed smooth confident lines. Well done!

2. Ellipses

  • Also a well executed ellipses. Well done!

3. Boxes

  • Your Plotted Perspective box are too few, I know you've been waiting quite sometime for critique after submission, but I apologize, I'm gonna need to ask for revision. You did very well here, but please draw additional boxes. 4-6 boxes ideally on each panel https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/15/example. Don't hesitate to draw box behind or in front of other box.

  • Your Rough Perspective is well executed. Nothing to mention here.

  • Your Rotated Boxes turns out great, although the outer-most boxes aren't rotating https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/17/notrotating. Practice this exercise again after you go through lessons forward, to see how much your spatial thinking ability has improve.

  • Your Organic Perspective also turns out great, but the flow feels to rigid. It will feel more flowing if you rotate some box like https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/18/example. Your boxes line construction relying pretty heavily on parallel line which is leading to some weird divergences in some cases. The lines construction after the initial Y line suppose to converge to their respective vanishing points using Y line as guide. The next lesson and exercise, 250 Box Challenge, will teach deeper understanding how to construct box with each lines converge to their respective vanishing points.

Overall this is a solid submission that shows a nice deal of growth. You seem pretty comfortable using ghosting method and drawing from your shoulder for confident linework. Draw additional boxes on your Plotted Perspective, then I will mark your lesson 1 as complete. Good luck.

Next Steps:

Draw additional boxes on Plotted Perspective exercise.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

LINES

The lines look confident enough. Ghosted lines look straight too, some a little wobbly as if you hesitated, overall looks good. Ghosted planes, the first page looks like you arched the lines a bit in some planes. Second page looks good.

ELLIPSES

Ellipses on table look good. Remember to draw through ellipses 2 to 3 times (2, preferably). In some it looks you went for 4. They're between bounds, so it looks good on that.

Ellipses on planes, they look confident enough. It looks you went through ellipses 4 times like in the ellipses on table excercise, remember to draw through them 2 to 3 times.

Funnels look good overall.

BOXES

Plotted perspective looks good. Aim for more boxes on this excercise to make sure you grasp the concept.

Rough perspective looks good, parallel lines are on point.

Rotated boxes looks good, but the most outer boxes on the corners look like they're not rotating.

Keep this in mind when doing this excercise as your warmup.

Organic perspective, some lines are not parallel to each other. Keep this in mind when doing your warmups.

Faber Castell PITT Artist Pens

Faber Castell PITT Artist Pens

Like the Staedtlers, these also come in a set of multiple weights - the ones we use are F. One useful thing in these sets however (if you can't find the pens individually) is that some of the sets come with a brush pen (the B size). These can be helpful in filling out big black areas.

Still, I'd recommend buying these in person if you can, at a proper art supply store. They'll generally let you buy them individually, and also test them out beforehand to weed out any duds.
