Hello, it's me again! Are you still doing reviews? I've been taking several breaks from Drawabox and drawing in general, but now I want to continue. I think I've finished lesson 2 at the end of January or so, but forgot to submit it for critique, and since then I've just dont like a couple of 50% and other drawing lesson aside from Drawabox. I hope you can critique my work, so I can continue forward. Actually I thought the beginning of Lesson 3 is still Lesson 2, so I've done like the first 2 homework pages, but I'll do my 50% for now I think and will cotinue after the review.
Hey! Happy to hear from you again
Yeah I still do reviews
It's a getting a bit late where I live rn so I'll be getting to it tomorrow hope that's okay :)
Cheers!
Just thought of something,
As some other people do that I'll be asking you to do yourself some reviews on other peoples submissions (Lesson 1 and 250 box) before I get to reviewing your Lesson 2
That's so that everyone can get a review and to try to make it a little fair
Once you've done at least 3 reviews you can hmu and I'll review your Lesson 2 Right away
I'd been drawing as a hobby for a solid 10 years at least before I finally had the concept of composition explained to me by a friend.
Unlike the spatial reasoning we delve into here, where it's all about understanding the relationships between things in three dimensions, composition is all about understanding what you're drawing as it exists in two dimensions. It's about the silhouettes that are used to represent objects, without concern for what those objects are. It's all just shapes, how those shapes balance against one another, and how their arrangement encourages the viewer's eye to follow a specific path. When it comes to illustration, composition is extremely important, and coming to understand it fundamentally changed how I approached my own work.
Marcos Mateu-Mestre's Framed Ink is among the best books out there on explaining composition, and how to think through the way in which you lay out your work.
Illustration is, at its core, storytelling, and understanding composition will arm you with the tools you'll need to tell stories that occur across a span of time, within the confines of a single frame.
