Hello!

I will take care of correcting your 250 box challenge.

Lines:

Your lines look drawn correctly and patiently.

Both line weight and line hatching look well placed, as well.

No errors that jump out at a glance.

Box construction:

The process you go through to build your boxes looks adequate. You place the points, plan your lines, etc.

In some cases you extended your lines in the wrong direction (like in box 3), but you corrected it in the following boxes so I won't highlight too much there.

I see you practiced boxes with deep and shallow foreshortening.

Both are useful, although in future boxes you will want to stick more to shallow foreshortening.

Regarding the convergence of the lines, sometimes they converge in pairs (like in box 249 and 250). As if there were two vanishing points for the same set of lines.

It can be corrected by thinking of the relationship of every line of a set to its single vanishing point.

As shown here: https://imgur.com/8PqQLE0

Conclusion:

The process and effort you spent in drawing all the boxes is very good.

The only notable error is the convergence in pairs of your boxes.

I will leave you a minimum of homework to try to correct it.

Next Steps:

Draw 15 more boxes.

Try to avoid the lines turning into pairs.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

I am glad to see an improvement!

There was a bit of convergence in pairs on the last few boxes, but this will be remedied with time, and warm-ups, etc.

I will mark your lesson as complete, good luck in what's next!

The Art of Brom

The Art of Brom

Here we're getting into the subjective - Gerald Brom is one of my favourite artists (and a pretty fantastic novelist!). That said, if I recommended art books just for the beautiful images contained therein, my list of recommendations would be miles long.

The reason this book is close to my heart is because of its introduction, where Brom goes explains in detail just how he went from being an army brat to one of the most highly respected dark fantasy artists in the world today. I believe that one's work is flavoured by their life's experiences, and discovering the roots from which other artists hail can help give one perspective on their own beginnings, and perhaps their eventual destination as well.
