Hi, and good job taking your first steps in drawabox! Let's take a look here.

Lines: I see some good improvement in confidence from beginning to end of lesson 1. The ghosted lines are rather wobbly, and it looks like you go over them a couple of times. Just do your lines once--if there's a mistake, it's okay. When I start wobbling my lines, I grab a piece of scratch paper and "reset" myself by drawing some loose, fast lines that go nowhere in particular. Then I go back to the more precise work. Your lines will continue to improve if you keep doing these exercises in warmups. Also, you're missing one page of the superimposed lines assignment.

Ellipses: These are difficult to do, and you've made a solid effort. 2 passes per ellipse is enough--don't worry if it's not accurate. An exercise that helps me "reset" wobbly ellipses is to first draw a few loose ones, then add a bit of precision by drawing some minor axes and create ellipses around them (like this: https://imgur.com/a/FVVPp6Z ). Then I go back to the table of ellipses, or whatever else. It's normal for it to take longer to get ellipses to work--it took me months. So do ellipses about half the time for warmups, cause they'll come up again in a few months after you finish the box challenge!

Boxes: Your line quality improved by the time you got to boxes, so that's great! Plotted perspective is good, and the rough perspective/rotated boxes has the right idea. The organic perspective is missing a page (with 3 panels). For what you have, it's a good start. Some of the boxes have diverging lines, but you'll have a chance to check those when you do the 250 box challenge! Here's an additional explanation, if it helps: https://imgur.com/a/CP1JmaB

Next Steps:

Complete page 2 of the superimposed lines, and page 2 of organic perspective (with 3 panels as shown in the example).

Continue to practice line confidence and ellipses in warmups (just 5 min before you draw--you don't have to fill a whole page). If your work starts feeling wobbly, reset as needed with free lines or ellipses on scratch paper. Don't worry if it takes a few months to get more confident, especially for ellipses!

Good luck!

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Awesome, it's completed now!

Next Steps:

On to the 250 boxes!

Also, when you practice the frayed lines as one of your 5 min warmups, watch out for arcing lines. Try to almost reverse the arc to get it straight. It takes some practice, but you'll get it!

How to Draw by Scott Robertson

When it comes to technical drawing, there's no one better than Scott Robertson. I regularly use this book as a reference when eyeballing my perspective just won't cut it anymore. Need to figure out exactly how to rotate an object in 3D space? How to project a shape in perspective? Look no further.
