Lesson 2: Contour Lines, Texture and Construction
12:13 AM, Sunday March 15th 2020
Finished lesson 2! If anyone would be kind enough to give some constructive criticism that would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Organic Forms
You're alligning the ellipses to the axis, and the lines are mostly pretty confident, so good job on that! There are a few issues, which are that you aren't sticking to simple sausages; they should be 2 balls connected by a tube of consistent width, so no bulging sausages.
And that you aren't hooking your contours, check the lesson notes again on that.
Arrows
Mostly confident though with a little bit of wobble at times, remember confidence is always more important than accuracy. Don't rush the hatching, plan every mark you do, and try to exaggerate more how they get bigger as they get closer towards the viewer
Textures
Good job, try not to outline every single form, focus on drawing only cast shadows and try to wrap the textures more around the contours on dissections
Form intersections
Good job overall, except a few wobbly lines. Try to mantain consistent foreshortening to your forms, and to do that I recommend to do only shallow foreshortening forms. You haven't attempted too many intersections, so try to be a bit more bold with how your forms overlap in the placing forms step of the exercise.
Organic intersections
In this exercise, focus on making simple forms, don't make complex ones, and just like in the organic forms exercise, don't forget to hook your contours. Draw through your forms too, even if you can't see them.
Next Steps:
Good job! I want to see one more page of organic intersections before moving on. Before attempting it, watch the video demo of the exercise, and try it by yourself after it. Draw through your forms, hook your contours, and stick to simple forms, good luck, and keep it up!
When it comes to technical drawing, there's no one better than Scott Robertson. I regularly use this book as a reference when eyeballing my perspective just won't cut it anymore. Need to figure out exactly how to rotate an object in 3D space? How to project a shape in perspective? Look no further.
