Let me ask something.

Are you using ballpoint pen?but because your using Community Submissions,So this is just my wish.

1.Superimposed Lines

I feel you rushing to finish the work, from other person critique my work experience, the line both end(the start, the middle and the end) try to no explode,or fraying, but this need practise,so the start is ok,mirror problem,(mirror problem is few mark miss the starting point),the end,i make the same mistake too,so good to know slow the the speed.

Fix1.Try to make slower drawing speed without making the Wobbling line.

2.Ghosted Lines

Why i feel the ink is almost run out?and the line feel twisty?

Fix2.Try use different pen, recommend the fineliners/felt tip one,and try to use the shoulder,no elbow,no wrist. The elbow and the wrist try to "lock",unless in other drawing,in drawabox, use shoulder.

3.Tables of Ellipses

Feel rush, some no have full two lap, have empty space.

Fix3.Try to make slow without Wobbling, use the ghosting method ,count the laps,Fill the space.

4 and 5.Ghosted Planes and Ellipses in Planes

Ghosted Planes is look good, but the Ellipses in Planes no so much,

same rush,no close the box, have Deformed and Floating ellipse.

Fix5.use the ghosting method

6.Funnels

Where is the middle line?

Fix6.Reread.

5 and 6.Just Like a race car in the runway, try your best pass the corner without run out the runway or hit something, the race car is the pen mark, the corner is the box.try your best.

7.Plotted Perspective

Too Less Box.

Fix7.The drawing need time.

8.Rough Perspective

Same. Why i feel the ink is almost run out.Too Less Box.have few guess line.

Fix8.Same,The drawing need time.try no to far off vp(vanishing point)

9.Rotated Boxes

Good,a little bit off axis, can solve by more practise.

10.Organic Perspective

Few box.

Fix10.Same,The drawing need time.

Summarize,I not sure why you rush the work,I repeat again,The drawing need time.Need to to read, need time to watch, need time the test, need time to learn, and need time to do the work.

And drawing confidently is not drawing quickly.Learn From other people critique.

Next Steps:

Redo Tables of Ellipses,Ellipses in Planes,Funnels,Plotted Perspective,Rough Perspective,Organic Perspective.

Each need 1 page.

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Having looked through your feedback here, I think you might be a little harsh, in a way that can be much more discouraging to the recipient of the critique. Remember that above all, our goal here isn't to hammer students with criticism, but rather to help them understand. If the way we've presented our feedback immediately makes them defensive, then we're not really doing our jobs too well.

Of course, that can be pretty tricky to do - sometimes students don't do a good job of reading through the material, and so they make a lot of mistakes. In those cases, they still need to have that feedback delivered, but we always have to do our best to ensure that the critique we offer will be received as intended.

Needless to say, there's also a matter of language barrier, which can also make it more difficult to convey the feedback in a way that doesn't come off as overly direct and harsh. Either way, keep doing your best to provide balanced feedback, when you do decide to take time out of your day to critique others.

I will mention a couple things though that I felt your critique may have been a bit misleading to the student:

  • In the super imposed lines exercise, you pushed the student to avoid all fraying in their work. This is actually incorrect - as explained here, fraying on the far end (which is what we see in the student's work) is normal and expected, because the student's main focus here is on maintaining a consistent trajectory. When we do so, the angle we set off at is maintained, meaning that if we're off even slightly, by the time we reach the end of the stroke, it'll cause some notable separation in the lines. What we want to avoid is fraying on both sides, which is not present in this submission.

  • In the funnels section, your feedback was "where is the middle line?" - I assumed initially there that you were referring to the central minor axis line that sits in the middle of each funnel, but it is definitely present. Then I thought you might have meant the line that runs perpendicular to that minor axis line, the shorter one that sits in the dead center of the funnel. While that one is harder to make out, it's also present on all of the student's funnels. So I'm not sure what you're referring to here.

Anyway - again, while we are always grateful for any student that takes time out of their day to provide feedback for others, how that feedback is done does matter. If you don't feel confident in your ability to deliver feedback that considers both content and how that feedback is delivered/interpreted by the student, then it might be better to leave it to others.

Cottonwood Arts Sketchbooks

These are my favourite sketchbooks, hands down. Move aside Moleskine, you overpriced gimmick. These sketchbooks are made by entertainment industry professionals down in Los Angeles, with concept artists in mind. They have a wide variety of sketchbooks, such as toned sketchbooks that let you work both towards light and towards dark values, as well as books where every second sheet is a semitransparent vellum.
