The dissections section is something I mean to replace soon - hopefully within the month. The texture analysis and actual texture lesson material have all been updated, so the dissections are the last to receive the treatment. So the material there can be applied to the dissections.

As described for the texture analyses, when doing your dissections focus entirely on what forms are present, and what kinds of shadows they're going to cast on their surrounding elements. Ignore any local colour. Chrome tends to be a bit of a special case, as its primary feature is the fact that it's so smooth that it's entirely reflective. Capturing the suggestion of reflections as I've done there is pretty much the main way to give the impression of a surface that smooth, rather than capturing cast shadows.

In terms of arranging the density of your textures, one successful approach is to see the strip in the middle of the sausage form as receiving the most direct light, and that tapering out to either side. So in the middle of the sausage the texture will be most sparse, and it'll be most dense to the sides.
