Post with 46 views. Draw a Box - Lesson 1

Hello!

This is my first time here, submitting lesson 1 which I've done in the past 4 weeks. Hope to get some critique!

The points I've been having most trouble are making my ghosted lines extend until its end, and curving some of them. Ellipses in general also have been really hard to me, especially bigger ones.

Going to start the 250 box challenge next.

Thanks for taking your time to review it!

Hi overall good job and congrats finishing first lesson :)

Lines

Lines are good, though as you said some of your lines arch a bit ;)

Ellipses

Ellipses are a bit wobbly at times and some of them aren't as confident as others. Remember that in ellipses as well as lines you should try to do them as confident as you can, don't hesitate in sacrificing accuracy to get them smoother and more confident.

Also you did good job in funnels( minor axis cuts ellipses in halves).

Boxes

In rotated boxes the gap between boxes should be narrow and consistent. And you could add additional weight to make picture clearer.

Also in both rotated boxes and organic boxes exercises your main issue is perspective, which is completely fine, as you'll work on it in 250 boxes challenge.

Good job overall and keep it up ;)

Next Steps:

Next Steps:

Continue to use these exercises as part of your warm ups (about 10-15 minutes)

Feel free to move onto the 250 box challenge

Don’t forget to take breaks and draw for fun!

Also, now that you’ve completed Lesson 1, I encourage you to critique some Lesson 1 community submissions. Not only will this help the community, but it will also solidify and reinforce your understanding of the material. Of course, this is optional (but we’d be especially grateful!). If you’d like to give it a shot, see this guide that was created by one of our community members on how to go about critiquing Lesson 1.
This community member feels the lesson should be marked as complete, and 2 others agree. The student has earned their completion badge for this lesson and should feel confident in moving onto the next lesson.

Thanks a lot for the critique! I'll be sure to keep attention on these points, and review some of the community lessons! :)

No worries ;)

A lot of my students use these. The last time I used them was when I was in high school, and at the time I felt that they dried out pretty quickly, though I may have simply been mishandling them. As with all pens, make sure you're capping them when they're not in use, and try not to apply too much pressure. You really only need to be touching the page, not mashing your pen into it.

In terms of line weight, the sizes are pretty weird. 08 corresponds to 0.5mm, which is what I recommend for the drawabox lessons, whereas 05 corresponds to 0.45mm, which is pretty close and can also be used.
