Hi there!

I really appreciate any time you take looking over my post/homework, and any critique you have for me.

There's a few little glitches here and there, like the ink bleed in the superimposed lines, and a couple of ghosted planes with wonkily-placed points. And I also accidentally started a ghosted planes exercise when drawing one of the faces for my rough perspective, so there's that...

Anyway, let me know if I need to re-do anything or if I'm good to start the 250 box challenge :)

Thanks in advance!

Hello Flippydiffy,

2 filled pages of Superimposed lines - When doing your superimposed lines, make sure to align your pen tip to the starting point. Fraying on the other end is acceptable and expected, but the multiple starting points for each line is incorrect. I would recommend that you reread the page on superimposed lines and watch the video again. Good job attempting to do curved lines! Many people forget that on their submission.

1 filled page of Ghosted lines - Some of your lines are wobbly and this is a mistake. Make sure you are drawing from your shoulder and that you take the time to align your pen tip to the starting point each time you ghost and when you draw your confident line. On a side note, please try to take advantage of the page space. This is for your benefit.

2 filled pages of Ghosted planes - I can tell you reused these pages for the ellipses in planes exercise. Your lines are improving here. Although some are wobbly, it appears to me you took the time to align your pen tip to the starting point.

2 filled pages of Tables of ellipses - These are coming along nicely. Good job drawing through them a couple of times. Sometimes you go over your boundaries, but this is expected for someone new. Good job ????

2 filled pages of Ellipses in planes - Many of your ellipses are good and you will improve with meaningful practice. What helped me tighten my ellipses was taking a little bit longer to ghost them.

1 filled page of Ellipses in funnels - Some of these break your funnel boundary, but overall good!

1 filled page of Plotted perspective - Good overall. If you do this in the future, make sure you plot the lines back to the vanishing points. Some of your lines do not make it back to these points.

2 filled pages of Rough perspective - Some of your lines are a bit wobbly, but remember that width lines should be parallel to the horizon and height lines perpendicular to the horizon. Make sure you are drawing using your shoulder and that you execute your line after ghosting fast.

1 filled pages of Rotated boxes - You did good on this for a begineer! You messed up the upper right section, but good job on this difficult exercise. When you practice this in the future, use this as a reference: https://d15v304a6xpq4b.cloudfront.net/lesson_images/5f4fef59.jpg

2 filled pages of Organic perspective - The rotation is coming along good. Your lines are starting to look more confident and it appears to me you are alinging your pen tip to the starting point. Over time you will gain confidence and will be hitting both points perfectly.

You did a really good job on the more difficult exercises. By any chance did you take a long break between them? I just want to mention that in the future, one should revisit all of these exercises as a 5 minute warm up. Not everyday, but every so often. I feel like you are almost ready for the 250 box challenge!

Lars

Hey Lars, thanks for the review! I'll go over my lines again, and then reply again when I get them done. I did not, actually, take a long break in between my assignments. Why do you ask?

No problem Flippydiffy,

I was asking because I thought that you maybe took extra time between exercises to grind. I made this mistake thinking my work was not good enough when it actually was. It is good you did not do this.

I look forward to your future submission. Take your time! I know you can do it!

Hi Lars,

Thanks again for the feedback. These are my ghosted lines and my superimposed lines - I did my best to be careful and align my pen to the starting point of my lines.

Let me know what you think!

Superimposed lines - Major improvement! They are looking good! You did mess up a bit with your curved lines, but practice over time will help!

Ghosted lines - You are hitting the bullseye! If any exercise is giving you eye strain, take a couple minute break with your eyes closed.

With that, I believe you are ready for the 250 box challenge. Make sure you revisit all of these exercises from time to time.

Hey Flippydiffy

I came here to return the favor! =]

However, Lars did an exceptional job and I can only agree with their insights. So, I am also marking this lesson as completed.

I hope you (and me) can find joy in the box challenge. ;-)

Cheers,

The Art of Blizzard Entertainment

While I have a massive library of non-instructional art books I've collected over the years, there's only a handful that are actually important to me. This is one of them - so much so that I jammed my copy into my overstuffed backpack when flying back from my parents' house just so I could have it at my apartment. My back's been sore for a week.

The reason I hold this book in such high esteem is because of how it puts the relatively new field of game art into perspective, showing how concept art really just started off as crude sketches intended to communicate ideas to storytellers, designers and 3D modelers. How all of this focus on beautiful illustrations is really secondary to the core of a concept artist's job. A real eye-opener.
