Rough Perspectative - struggling to get horizontal and perpendicular axis right

So I get the 1 point idea/theory that one set of lines should be horizontal and one vertical with the last ones converging on the vanishing point. I can (sort of just about) produce the first rectangle not looking too horrific - and I can make a workman like attempt at placing the first dot and then line towards the vanishing point.
My problem is the other 3 points which when I focus on trying to plot towards the vanishing point are horribly not parallel on the other 2 axis, and if I try to correct for 1 of the parallel axis then the other one and the vanishing point one are wrong.
My efforts are not coming close to the "what this should look like" from Uncomfortable - not only are the vanishing point lines not hitting the horizon on the vanishing point (which is as expected) but other lines are not parallel as they should be even though I know they should be. I am not "guessing" at random but trying to guesstimate the position of the points to use for ghosting using the known rules but it still looks really bad.
Is having the whole boxes skewed with just one original rectangle looking like it sort of should normal?
