Hi everyone! Here's my homework for Lesson 1, my lines are a little wobbly, I hope to receive some feedback.

Thank you for your time and have a great day!

Greetings! Your exercises are decent, though there is room to improve, of course.

Lines

There is a fair amount of wobble in some of your lines. If you aren't doing so already, remember to apply the ghosting method and to draw from your shoulder. These things take practice, but they're important and will be valuable from here onwards. Don't forget to prioritize confidence over accuracy in your lines; that is also important in resolving the wobble.

The wobble is the only aspect of your lines that jumps out to me as something that particularly needs improving. Anything else I could mention only occurs on occasion and are things that you'll be able to improve with practice.

Your ghosted planes are particularly good. The lines are confident and very well drawn; I hardly see any wobble there.

Ellipses

I believe that the ellipses are where you have the most room for improvement. Your ellipses have a fair amount of wobble to them overall, though you do seem to improve this a little as the ellipses section goes on. They can be quite challenging for sure, but don't be afraid to keep practicing ellipses. Like with the lines, you'll want to work to improve the ghosting technique with them and focus more on drawing them confidently and less on drawing them accurately. Even when you need to keep them bound within a particular space, focus on drawing ellipses smoothly and with confidence.

In the tables exercise, some ellipses don't quite stay within their bounds; some don't touch an edge, and some overlap other ellipses or the bounds of their rectangle. That being said, you did a good job with filling up the tables in this exercise.

In the ghosted planes with ellipses exercise, you do a solid job with keeping the ellipses within their bounds, and confidence in drawing them shows some improvement. There are still some instances where this is weak, however.

You did a decent job with the funnels exercise, though the issue of confidence in ellipses comes back into larger prominence. That being said, the ellipses are aligned to the funnels quite well, outside of a couple of slanted ones.

Boxes

Your boxes have room for improvement, but you're not off to a bad start with them overall. The issues with line confidence that I mentioned earlier apply once again, but outside of that, you've done well with the boxes.

On rough perspective, a couple vertical/horizontal lines are not quite perpendicular/parallel to the horizon line but are instead at an angle. Aside from that, you've done this one fairly well.

These are all the particular comments I have.

Next Steps:

I think it's safe to say that you've completed the lesson. Before I mention the next step, I want to encourage you to do some of the simpler exercises as warm ups before doing your main drawing for the day. Doing a few ghosted planes with ellipses is a good way to get in practice both with lines and with ellipses. I also recommend the funnels exercise for ellipse practice as well. I've also seen people recommend the superimposed lines as a warm up, so I would recommend you try that one as well.

As for your next steps, I believe that the 250 box challenge would be a good next step for you, as it will help you with perspective, understanding 3D space, and improving your lines. However, it would be good for you to continue to practice your ellipses as well, which don't really come into play during the box challenge. It may not hurt to at least dip your toes into lesson 2 so that ellipses don't fall by the wayside. I still recommend that you start with the box challenge, but don't be afraid to ask around the community on Reddit or Discord to see what other people think your next step should be.

This community member feels the lesson should be marked as complete. In order for the student to receive their completion badge, this critique will need 2 agreements from other members of the community.

Thank you for your critique and your time, I'll keep working on my ellipses and I'll take more time with the ghosting method.

Like the Staedtlers, these also come in a set of multiple weights - the ones we use are F. One useful thing in these sets however (if you can't find the pens individually) is that some of the sets come with a brush pen (the B size). These can be helpful in filling out big black areas.

Still, I'd recommend buying these in person if you can, at a proper art supply store. They'll generally let you buy them individually, and also test them out beforehand to weed out any duds.
