Apologies for the image quality, I don't have access to any kind of scanner.

Two errors I'm embarrassed about (and as such want to highlight, to prove that I know better in hindsight) are that for the funnels exercise I didn't turn the ellipsies into circles as I went out from the centre, and for the first page of the rough perspective exercise I accidentally highlighted with a pencil so big it blocked out a lot of my actual work.

I hope this is suffient, and I apologise that I have yet to manage at markmaking with my shoulder pivot in a way that doesn't look sloppy. I recognise how bad it looks when I attempt to go over a line multiple times, as is apparent in most exercises here.

Hello and congrats on completing lesson one. I'll be taking a look at your submission today. So after a quick overview here I'm seeing a few extremely important issues we'll need to address before moving forward but let's start with your superimposed lines. So it's good that you are trying to keep a clearly defined starting point on these but I feel that you are getting wavering right away along with a lot of arcing lines which is a problem I'm seeing throughout a lot of your exercises with lines that are supposed to be straight. https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/9/arc Now if you are still getting this arcing while drawing from the shoulder you will need to start compensating for it as the lesson suggests and build that compensation into your muscle memory. I do like that I'm not seeing any wobble which means you are probably drawing fairly quickly but in your case I think it might be almost too quick and a bit too enthuastic as you are losing control on almost every line. I don't see a ton of improvement in this regard as you worked through these exercises which tells me this is something we need to address. So one of the main things I want to talk about is that I think you are probably doing these exercises too quickly. Patience is a key skill you will need to develop if you want to learn how to draw it's one of the things these lessons try to teach with the Ghosting Method. The ghosting method allows you to do all of your planning and thinking before you actually go to put down your mark. It even lets you build up the motion of the stroke you are going to make beforehand to build it up into your muscle memory so you can make your marks without thought. One of the real problems I think I'm seeing here is just a lack of planning in general and probably moving through these exercises too quickly. Some of these exercises can be very tough if you aren't used to spatial thinking and if you aren't planning every single mark you put down you can get overwhelmed very quickly.

Another problem I'm seeing repeatedly through these exercises is that you are redrawing lines all of the time. This is a hugely bad habit that you need to break. The whole point of the ghosting method is to plan your mark and to put it down with one confident stroke. Now since you are a beginner these marks aren't going to be entirely accurate at first but you are much much better off going with one mark that is slightly drawn in error rather than trying to overwhelm your first mark with a bunch more badly drawn marks that just make the image look sloppy overall. So I really want you to get used to putting down a single line and then leaving it alone.

So looking at your ellipses I think these are probably the most well done exercises out of all of the ones you submitted which is a bit odd as these tend to be the things people struggle with the most so consider yourself a bit lucky that these seem a bit easier for you. It's great to see that you are following directions and drawing through all of your ellipses but I think it a lot of cases you are once again a bit too enthusiastic and drawing through way too many times. I'm seeing 5 - 6 drawthroughs in some cases which is way way too much and is making the overall read very sloppy. When drawing through your ellipse try and limit the draw through to 2 - 3 times max. There's still plenty of room for improvement with your ellipses but I feel like these are the most on the right track out of all of the exercises you did so keep practicing them.

The plotted perspective looks good and one of the reasons it looks good is that you drew everything with a single line instead of redrawing lines constantly. Your rough perspective boxes definitely could use some work. You did a good job extending the lines back on your boxes but there's still a lot of work to be done here with getting your perspective estimations more accurate. The biggest issue here though is the redrawing lines problem that I brought up earlier. I'm going to have you do one more pages of these and I only want you to put down a single line each time. NO REDRAWING LINES AT ALL.

Your rotated box exercises was a decent attempt and you did a good job drawing through your boxes and keeping your gaps fairly consistent. You are running into issues with not actually rotating your boxes enough though which is a common beginner mistake. https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/16/notrotating Another big problem I'm seeing here is your scribbled in lines for the hatching on the sides of the boxes. Every single mark you put down for these lessons needs to be planned and put down with intention. There is no scribbling of any sort done while working on these lessons. Everything needs to be planned first. This means that if you are going to add hatching to something you should treat it the same as every other line you draw and ghost it multiple times and then draw from the shoulder with confidence. Finally, your organic box exercise looks very rushed overall. I see dots for planning put down but no lines starting or ending near them almost everywhere. You really need to calm down and take your time with these exercises. Like I said developing patience is absolutely essential. Also your redrawing lines problem is extremely severe here. Your box constructions could also use some work and you will get a lot practice with that during the 250 box challenge but before that I'm going to assign some redo's to try and get your line quality a bit better.

So I think you did a decent job following instructions for most of these exercises but your line quality is a serious problem that we need to address. Thank you for your feedback, it was direct and constructive. Exactly what I need to be able to learn.

It was very difficult to apply ghosting, even with trying to ghost a minimum of 10 times on each line (and copying the technique from ScyllaStew's videos) it's far too easy to just completely miss.

Not redoing lines was also a massive challenge, namely in my Organic Perspective attempt: most of those hardly look like boxes at all.

I'll admit to being pleased with how my ellipses in planes exercise has come out in comparison to my first attempts.

I'm completely ashamed of how my Orgnanic Perspective reattempt looks, even though I was trying to make sure I spent at least 20 seconds ghosting each line, using the Y method and trying to copy how ScyllaStew would spend time, I still objectively failed with most of the marks I was trying to make.

I do genuinely understand that a box is made of three sets of parallel lines.

This really is the best job I'm currently capable of.

Hi, so these are pretty decent improvements from what I can see. Even with just not redrawing lines these are looking much cleaner. One thing I'm really noticing is that you seem to have a natural arc to your lines that you are going to have to start compensating for. You are still really hit or miss with getting a straight line without any arcing to it. Always make sure you are rotating your page to get the most comfortable angle possible to draw your lines.

Your box constructions with your organic perspective exercise could definitely use more work but that's why you will be working on the 250 box challenge next. Keep practicing ghosted planes during your warmups as you need to get better at being able to consistently draw straight lines that connect. Using the ghosting method and drawing from your shoulder is going to be inaccurate at first but the more you practice it the better and better your accuracy will get so keep at it. I'm going to mark this as complete and good luck with the 250 box challenge.
