Hi I will be doing your lesson 1 critique.

Superimposed Lines looks mostly solid.I want to point out that you did some of the exercises in lesson 1 with pen i think thats fine for lesson 1 but as you keep going try to do your exercises in fineliner or brush pen if you can.With ghosted lines there is some arching and wobbly lines but there are also some confident ones.For the ghosted planes exercise there is still a little bit of wobble but lines are mostly good.

One thing I want to point out that your lines in the beginning did use to be more wobbly but as you went further in Lesson 1 they started to be much more confident.Great job on that.Wobbly lines mostly appear because students are scared to make the line (which is very common) and I think there is some of that in your work but as you draw more and do more warm ups especially from lesson 1 it shouldnt be issue going further.

Ellipses

Now with ellipses there are some problems mainly that they are deformed and not consistent.They are also not drawn trough 2-3 times.To prevent this from happening you should ghost more before putting the pen down and when you do make the line make it confidently thinking only about the end point not how accurate the line is.One thing you did well is that they are all fit in the borders very well so keep that up.

Funnels

Now your funnels are correct.Ellipses are smooth,they touch borders and ellipses are mostly aligned to their minor axis however they are really small so because of that you dont get to draw much from the arm or to draw the range of ellipses.Again they are mostly good but when drawing them again make them larger.

Ellipses in planes

They look very good.They are drawn confidently and are drawn trough 2-3 times,very good!One thing I want to point out is that some do look a bit deformed so keep an eye out for that.

Boxes

Plotted perspective looks mostly good.I see that you understand how your vanishing points work.

Rotated boxes

With this one there are some mistakes.Mainly the boxes arent rotated enough and because of that picture feels flat. https://imgur.com/a/HqoMKRy Its not that big of an issue for know, you are going to learn this concept doing 250 box challenge but I have to point it out.Also there is some mistakes with hatching.When hatching try to do it like you did ghosted lines exercise from one corner(line) to another.This mistake is common in your work.

Organic boxes

They are overall done confidently and they have flow.Tho try to avoid doing same boxes over and over again like this : https://imgur.com/a/nLKOdkN and try to have more diversity https://imgur.com/a/IC3SOiw . Tho I see that you followed the Y method correctly.

Rough perspective

This exercise is solid but your line work could be better.Next time try planing out your lines more and ghosting a bit more TAKE YOUR TIME when you are doing exercises.This is an important note.

Overall its a solid submission there are some mistakes but thats to be expected.If you could do your revision in ink that would be great but its not mandatory.

Let's be real here for a second: fineliners can get pricey. It varies from brand to brand, store to store, and country to country, but good fineliners like the Staedtler Pigment Liner (my personal brand favourite) can cost an arm and a leg. I remember finding them being sold individually at a Michael's for $4-$5 each. That's highway robbery right there.

Now, we're not a big company ourselves or anything, but we have been in a position to periodically import large batches of pens that we've sourced ourselves - using the wholesale route to keep costs down, and then to split the savings between getting pens to you for cheaper, and setting some aside to one day produce our own.

These pens are each hand-tested (on a little card we include in the package) to avoid sending out any duds (another problem with pens sold in stores). We also checked out a handful of different options before settling on this supplier - mainly looking for pens that were as close to the Staedtler Pigment Liner. If I'm being honest, I think these might even perform a little better, at least for our use case in this course.

We've also tested their longevity. We've found that if we're reasonably gentle with them, we can get through all of Lesson 1, and halfway through the box challenge. We actually had ScyllaStew test them while recording realtime videos of her working through the lesson work, which you can check out here, along with a variety of reviews of other brands.

Now, I will say this - we're only really in a position to make this an attractive offer for those in the continental United States (where we can offer shipping for free). We do ship internationally, but between the shipping prices and shipping times, it's probably not the best offer you can find - though this may depend. We also straight up can't ship to the UK, thanks to some fairly new restrictions they've put into place relating to their Brexit transition. I know that's a bummer - I'm Canadian myself - but hopefully one day we can expand things more meaningfully to the rest of the world.
