Hi there,

congratulations on finishing lesson 1 and thanks for submitting, I'll be reviewing your homework. I hope my feedback helps you.

Superimposed lines

You aligned your starting point nicely and it looks like you repeated 8 times.

I think your missing 1 page though (I only see one and you're supposed to do 2), so please do that now. Make sure your lines are confident and in one stroke drawn from your shoulder! In DaB confidence always goes over accuracy.

I'd add this exercise to your warmup to improve confidence.

ghosted lines

Your ghosted lines are confident and smooth and fairly accurate. You tend to curve the end of your line a little, so keep that in mind. Good job here.

ghosted planes

Looks really nice. You took your time and didn't sacrifice line quality, so your lines are still smooth and confident. I'd add this exercise to your warmup to improve accuracy.

tabels of ellipses

You drew every ellipse twice, ghosted them nicely and have confident lines. You also varied the degree and size, good job. Id also add this exercise to your warmup to improve accuracy.

ellipses in planes

You drew every ellipse twice, ghosted them nicely and have confident lines. Some of your ellipses are a little edgy, but otherwise good job here.

funnels

Your ellipses are snugly aligned to each oher and the borders and cut in half by the minor axis. Well done.

plotted perspective

Your boxes aren't distorted and it looks like youor understand the concept of "2 point perspective". Nicely done.

rough perspective

Your lines are a bit wobbly. Confidnece goes over accuracy, so if you draw an incorrect line, don't worry about it and make the others correct. Your line accuracy improves automatically with time the more you draw.

For the exercise itelf: You did well. Your vertical/horizontal lines are perpendicular/parallel to the horizon line and your depth lines converge towards the vanishing point. I'd also add this to your warmup to improve accuracy.

rotated boxes

You drew through your boxes and kept them snugly next to each other. You also rotated them correctly, so good job here.

organic perspective

Your boxes get smaller the further away they get and look freely rotated in space. You probably should have done a few more boxes especially on the first page, but you'll do enough boxes in the 250 box challenge.

Note for the warmups: You don't have to do all the "marked" exercises in every warm up. Do 2-3 in one warm up and in the next one switch them around and do others.

Please do the missing page of superimposed lines and reply to this critique with it, so I can mark this lesson as complete.

After that you should be free to move onto the 250-box-challenge. Make sure you take your time with each exercise (or box in this case), trust me, you'll learn a lot more. Also don't forget about the 50%-rule, the challenge takes a long time and you'll burn out/lose motivation if you rush through it and don't take time for yourself.

Next Steps:

reply with 1 page of superimposed lines

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Hi there,

Thank you so much for taking your time and giving me your detailed feedback! It helps a lot.

I totally forgot to include the other page of the first excercise (which I did ages ago) but here it is!

Your welcome :) And I'm really glad it helped and you liked it.

The page looks good, so feel free to start the 250 box challenge

Next Steps:

250-box-challenge and don't forget about the 50%-rule

Ellipse Master Template

Ellipse Master Template

This recommendation is really just for those of you who've reached lesson 6 and onwards.

I haven't found the actual brand you buy to matter much, so you may want to shop around. This one is a "master" template, which will give you a broad range of ellipse degrees and sizes (this one ranges between 0.25 inches and 1.5 inches), and is a good place to start. You may end up finding that this range limits the kinds of ellipses you draw, forcing you to work within those bounds, but it may still be worth it as full sets of ellipse guides can run you quite a bit more, simply due to the sizes and degrees that need to be covered.

No matter which brand of ellipse guide you decide to pick up, make sure they have little markings for the minor axes.
