Hi. I'd like some feedback on whether I should proceed to the 250 boxes challenge. I feel like I'm still not confident with my lines especially when forming boxes. Should go back and repeat some exercises or try to improve it in the 250 boxes challenge? Thanks

Hi man!

First of all, congratulations for finish lesson 1!

What i can tell you is what i see in my own homework. Your lines are wobbly, like mine...i sugest work on that. Come back and watch the videos with calm, read and analyse the diagrams.

Your ellipses are wobbly too..ghost the ellipses before put the pen on the paper. Try to draw one near the other, and make your funnels more funnels. I think you need take your time with ellipses.

The boxes need to improve a little, cause the lines are wobbly, with lack of confidance. Your plotted and rough perspective are good, in the matter of perspective. The rotated boxes are good for a first try. The organic perspective could be bigger contrast between the boxes.

In general you have done a great job!

Next Steps:

2 pages of ghosted lines;

2 pages of ghosted planes (that will help you make squares and boxes with more confiance - a good warm up too!);

1 page of table of ellipses;

1 page of ellipses funnels;

1 page of organig perspective;

Once you have finish, reply with your revisions, please!

When finished, reply to this critique with your revisions.

Hey!

I accidentally clicked report instead of reply so my initial reply got sent as a report. Oops....

But anyway, thank you so much for your feedback! It really helped me to go back and reread the initial lessons because by the time I reached the last few exercises, I had already forgotten the initial lessons. I'm really happy with how this new set of exercises turned out. My ellipses still need improvement but I'll try to work on it in the next lesson.

I'll be moving onto the 250 boxes challenge now. Thank you and goodluck to us!

Like the Staedtlers, these also come in a set of multiple weights - the ones we use are F. One useful thing in these sets however (if you can't find the pens individually) is that some of the sets come with a brush pen (the B size). These can be helpful in filling out big black areas.

Still, I'd recommend buying these in person if you can, at a proper art supply store. They'll generally let you buy them individually, and also test them out beforehand to weed out any duds.
